this thread is confusing... I googled "wiki mitsubishi 2.6" to help straighten it out (use the search engine, Luke)

the 'transverse' 2.6 (FWD applications) was never turbocharged, and IMO is NOT better than a 2.2T, or a 2.2 NA for that matter - mainly cuz of the overly complicated carburetor and related miles of vacuum lines; altho it did have balance shafts, and may have been the only 4cyl equipped as such at that time ; it was also one of the largest 4cyl available at the time

the FWD 2.6 was never offered with a manual trans in any ChryCo products ; will it bolt up to one ? dunno but I would guess NO since it wouldve been cheaper for ChryCo to make special A413s (nee A470) with a Mitsu bolt pattern than to ask Mitsu to change the 2.6 to have a ChryCo boltpattern

the 2.6 was also made in a longitudinal version for RWD cars including Dodge branded mistsubishis (e.g. challenger and conquest); in that flavor it was offered with manual trans. as well as a turbo version...

I spose its possible to swap the RWD turbo FI / intake /etc over to a FWD 2.6 ; but why bother ; a 2.2 or 2.5 turbo swap would be much easier

Here's a fact to help you out. the fwd 2.6 has a totally different block than the rwd. they will not interchange nor fit the other's transmissions. all the internals are the same and the heads can be swapped. infact the fwd head is desireable for the rwd crowd because it does not have the jet valve

when you go to the junkyard TOMORROW, get a picture, include a picture of this engine, a front view of the car, and take a picture of the VIN!
