Ok so here is the deal I bought a 90 spirit es with a blown 2.5. I got a good deal on a 86 2.2 off the forum so the problem is that 2.2 does not have a crank pulley and the one off the 90 wont fit. The 90 pulley has 5 bolts and the stub on the crank sticks out farther. The 86 crank only has 4 bolts.

Any help is greatly apprieciated

there ar a bunch of different crank pulleys i have 4 in front of me and they are all square tooth. good thing that 2.5 didn't fit, you'd have a round tooth crank pulley and the other pulleys are square tooth. that don't work with the belt.

there are 4 and 5 bolt 2.2 crank pulleys with square tooth crank sprockets.
the 1990 water pump is reverse rotation where the back side of the belt runs over the pulley. the 1986 has conventional rotation. the pulleys don't interchange and neither does the pumps to the housing, but the housings are interchangable to the blocks so you can put a 1990 pump on a 1986 but as a whole assembly.

you have just discovered how chrysler parts don't fit chrysler vehicles

Ok so let me get this straight, I can use 90 water pump on the 86 block? I do have water pumps for both so it is no big deal. I also got the PS and alt with the engine

Can someone get me a mopar # for the crank pulley? I can order 1 thru work and get it cheap. I also have belts for the new style will they work on the old setup?

Thanks so far

i guess i'm not very good at effective communications. so i'll try again

you can use any year water pump on any year car provided you use the whole assembly that matches the water pump. you also need to be aware that after 1989 the water pump spins backwards.

why do you need someone to give you a part number when you say you can order 1 thru work. if you can order one, just tell whom ever is doing the ordering to get the part that fits that year engine. let the parts person find the number after all isn't that what their job is all about?

what belts are you talking about? if you are talking timing belt, i thought i was pretty clear about the round tooth/ square tooth belt issue. if you are talking alt/water pump. depends on what water pump you use.

if you want to learn how to find if parts are the same or different, learn to use one of the auto parts store online resources. if i want to know if parts are the same, i type in the year/make/model and get the part number, then a different year/make/model and see the the part numbers are the same. quick easy cross reference i can do all by myself without relying on someone else to solve my problems
