I just bought a 89 Daytona Es for $300
It has a 2.5L 8V N/A motor with zero compression on piston 1 and the guy said it was blowing oil out the valve cover.
Anyhow, not knowing much about the engines I bought it thinking it was fuel injected (as in one injector per port). After picking it up I noticed it had a one piece Holley fuel injection unit like a throttle body or something.
Is it possible with little effort to convert this block to real fuel injection. If not, what easy mods can be done to it?

Simple conversion. Go grab an intake manifold, wiring harness, and ECU out of a 2.2 Turbo and swap it over.

As soon as you say wiring harness it doesn't seem so simple anymore

From what I've gathered through the exploits of others documented on this forum, you won't really be rewarded for your efforts either. I *believe* the turbo calibration pulls spark advance exactly when you want it on an N/A car and performance suffers. The reasons vary, but I don't think anyone has done a conversion to MPI and been left with something that was better all-around than what they started with; there's always a compromise made.

TBI, though decidely stodgy, is a simple and cheap system to maintain on a daily driver that gives all the drivability benefits of an EFI system. If you "don't know much about engines" I'd leave her as is, or ditch it get a 95+ car if you really want MPI. (and 16v to boot!)

well the wiring harness is actually quite simple to swap, once you have acquired one !

but some good points from Runner - he's right, the TBI system may be low-tech, but it works surprisingly well

if I was going to do a MPFI swap on a NA 2.5 I would look for a Mexican 2.5 MPFI computer, or the calibration code to burn the cal... I'm pretty sure the cal's are out there.. D-Chem ?

There was a thread that dealt with this subject a year or two ago, and I believe a guy from Mexico had pulled a cal from a 92/93/94-ish 2.5 MPI car and put a link to it. I can't find the cal on my machine now of course.

One unanswered question I had about the Mexi-Cal (and other Franken-MPI's) was around emissions... I wonder how MX emissions compare to Ontario emissions? I'd hate to go to all that trouble and not be able to pass the damn e-test.

No emissions test here...
But simplicity has its pluses as does me already having all the pieces and parts for the TBI.
I supposed I'll just do a rebuild and make it a daily driver. I'd rather have t-tops on one if I was going to really put some time into it anyway. Guess I'll keep an eye out while I fix this one. My son's getting pretty close to licensing age anyway.
