broken teeth on the ditributor/oil pump drive from the intermediate shaft can jump timing(cam timing). I had that problem last year.

Just out of curiousity - when you are setting the ignition timing, you are unplugging the coolant temp. sensor right? If you don't, the timing on the flywheel will jump around and not stay in a fixed position.

Not trying to be a smarty-pants, but just want to make sure it isn't something easy..

check the lower crank timing belt gear for cracks coming from the bolt holes too the outside of the gear. I've seen 3 cars do this and all 3 had a crack in the gear . the crack made one of the teeth stick up slighty higher and when you gave it gas it would jump a tooth.

your belt and tensioner are all o.k. right?

Does the engine have a turbo on it now or did you leave it with out the turbo in your car? Mean while check the inside of the dist. Sometimes the metal peice will be loose on the white plastic peice. Also be sure you have correct dist. Turbo has square hole in one shutter, N/A has all 4 shutters solid. Just a thought.

Don't give up on the car. Sometimes it takes alittle looking for a simple problem. You may have a bad ground some where. Did you check to see if you have the correct distributor? Turbo has square hole in one shutter and N/A has no square hole in the shutter. you have to pull the distributor rotor off and remove the halleffect pick up. Look at the shutters and also check where the shutter metal is mounted to the white plastic. If the metal is loose on the plastic you will need to fix it or replace the distributor. For ground straps make sure you have the one one from the firewall to the intake and one from the passenger motor mount to the mount on the fender area. You need a good ground on these cars.

Well got it fixed I changed the distributer still dident make a diffrence I changed the coolant sensor got rid of code 22 then I found out the computer wasent plugged in all the way one of the pins broke off on the computer and the nut that holds the connector on, so I pushed it back on and for some miracle its working so I am probally going to be in need of a computer for a 1989 dodge shadow es 2.5L I have 2 computers from a 1990 dodge daytona es 2.5L T1 if anyone would possible be intrested in a trade, both computers work. both worked when I took them out of the cars...

I have 3 N/A computers just taking up space here. I know 1 is from an 89 shadow and is good. If you need it just pay shipping and make a donation to turbododge, $10.00 or so, and you can have it.
