I'm not sure if this goes here, but here goes...

I recently had a small issue where some squirrels or mice chewed up a small part of my hood insulation. I sprayed it down with Fabreeze, of all things, and they never came back. But now I have this 8-by-4 inch oval hole in the insulation right above the rear of the engine (when the hood is closed).

How can I patch this without having to buy a whole new liner? I'm worried about the heat that comes up from the turbo and exhaust causing paint issues on the hood exterior over time due to thin insulation in that area.

Hm .... can't think of anything to repair yours. Maybe pull one off a car at a junk yard?

I'm not sure how you would patch it (ducktape and some reduced home insulation painted black??). The cheapest solution would be to check your local salvage yards. Also, I'm sure the aftermarket hoodliners would be fine. FYI...My brother ran his shelbyz, without a hoodliner, for a long time with NO paint issues. We just installed a used liner, from another daytona hood, to make the 2.2 appear quieter (merely an illusion)

Alright, cool. So I won't worry about it too much then. I'll add the insulation to the lower part of the restoration list.

If heat does become a problem, you can use the material that's on the back side of the plastic side shields on MX bikes. It's a self-adhesive material that usually comes in 12" squares and can be found at most good bike shops.
