I'm starting my rebuild for my GLHS and need to know what are the good parts if any I can work with. I have 88T2 short block that was in a fire (plastic parts melted only) and an 89 T1 complete head to pan. I've been told to go with the 89 block but I like the idea of forged parts going into it. Will the 88 crank and rods go in? I believe the pistons would be different? The T2 had been rebuilt before the fire.

I'm looking to make about 400hp with this but I like to overbuild and under run it for longevity reasons.

The fun begins....

The 88 T2 block was cast in late 88 and has no provision for a fuel pump. I read on Gary's page that this would make it an 89?

TIA

If there is NO fuel block off plate in the 88, This would Make it a commoon block... easy to check. Compare the crank snouts... if they and the brackets surrounding them are the same.. its a common block.

The 88 would be a steel crank but the pistons are all cast in td'd ( with the exception of the TIII cars)

The 88 came from a fire and had no pulleys, brackets, etc... so I can't compare much. Theres a bunch of melted plastic, belts, etc.. that needs to be removed. But it sounds like a common block. I assume that I can bolt on the early T2 stuff (W pump, brackets etc...)?

I'll know more this week when I can scrap off the crud so I can take it in to be machined for the rebuild."thumbs up
