Okay here is my first stab at the t-stat adapter.

I measured the geometry of the thermostat housing using my crappy harbor freight calipers and then drew it in solidworks, adjusting the bolt holes to be bigger than the bolts. :)

Then I made a little platform on the drivers side for the two 1/8npt ports, which are 0.64" apart center to center. The fittings in the picture are pretty big and they just barely fit, so I think pretty much anything 1/8npt would fit..

I wont be able to actually install this because A) i dont need it and B) i dont want to take my car apart to test it. So its experimental and I have no idea if it works or not!

Its for sale on ebay. Since I dont need or want it (I take back what I said earlier about wanting it..I realize now I have no use for it), it doesn't really fall under the free machinining deal. The auction starts at 0.01$ + s/h, or buy it now for $45 + s/h.

Plus..now we get to see if anyone really cares about it.

btw, i can put a nice finish on parts if needed, i just didnt on this one because i wanted to get it done faster so i used the roughing bit the whole way..

if a nice finish is needed, i have to leave some roughing and then change bits, rezero, and have a final toolpath which cuts to the geometry...its more work and fuss but if its important i can do it..as well as finish the backside of parts too

it would be easy to slot both sides for orings, the problem is, so many of our heads and thermostat nipples (? hehe) are rotted out or not smooth I doubt an oring would seal very well most of the time and youd have to use rtv anyways..

haven't seen a head rotted, the nipples can get a little rough but a wire wheel fixes them right up from what I've had. Guess you could just do an 0-ring on the head side and use a FWD/TU T-stat housing :)

you callin my nipples rough?

if i had a bigger mill i could machine the nipple onto the adapter so its all one piece..i suppose technically i could do that on the sherline but thats alot of material to remove, would probably want to bandsaw rough it out to be a t-shaped chunk first....actually that seems realistic..but i dont think anyone really wants one right?

Many do the cylinder head coolant mod. by making an outlet at the back of the head. Perhaps you could make something along these lines. You could probably sell a few if you could make something nice. Not nice as in bling but clean and functional.

Sounds interesting. I always thought they just drilled and tapped right into the head. I'm a little out of my element here.

I may actually need this mod, so this might be a winner for a free part. Do you need one yourself?

There are many ways to do it and as I have my head off right now I was trying to think of how to do mine. When I saw your t-stat housing it got me thinking you could make something clever. I think they would sell well if you could come up with something neat and tidy.

Maybe the idea would be to make something that aligns to the head so you know you are drilling in the right spot..if you start with a good hole then you just need to tap it and you are done right? No adapter or bracket needed? Is it just the alignment that makes it a mess?

I was thinking about a piece something like your t stat adaptor only with one end capped and one ear only to bolt to the head. If the other end could be machined with a nipple type thing pressing into the frost plug hole, probably with an o ring groove machined for a snug fit. And one outlet hole on the side something like your t stat deal.

Remove frost plug, wiggle o ringed nipple into hole and tighten the one ear to the head and install threaded fitting in side port. One nice clean factory looking part close to the head.
