I currently am running a 88 tona z with the 2.2tII 5 speed. Its a good DD but am looking for something in better condition to put alittle money into. I just wanted to know what the best motor was as a base to start a mild engine build. I may sell my TD and just wanted to get some info before i did.TIA nate

1989 and up used the common block. It doesn't matter if it was a 2.5L T1 or a 2.2L TII, TIII, or TIV. They all use the same block and all use the same head except the TIII. Simply get an 89+ common block turbo engine. You just need to decide if you want to use the 2.5L or the 2.2L.

Strongest overal combo would be an 89 or 90 T-II or T-IV. They have the benefit all of the common block cars have, and the added strength of a forged steel crank to boot....of course both of these combos would be 2.2's.
