In my 86 GLh I was thinking about the possibility of going to a common block. Would I be able to use my current top end with a square tooth timing belt?
Basically, what would I have to do to make my 86 top end (with T2 blowthrough manifold) work with the common block bottom end?

I'd go with the round tooth. I think you'll have to anyway. I don't think a square tooth sprocket is compatible with a common block crank. Your top end will bolt right on. Another tip: You can use your L-body water pump/housing with the common block. You'll have to notch your oil pan's lip for clearance.

THanks for the reply, didn't even think about the crank not being compatible with my sprocket...
So would the main problem be the square/round tooth mixup? A round tooth cam sprocket would bolt right up wouldn't it?
Also, the oil pan from a common block is unique to the common block isn't it?

oil pan needs to be from common block yes, u will have to just pull ur cam gear off and swap it to a round tooth gear bolts right up... there is no way to use the square tooth gear on teh commonblock..
