The top three sizes will do 90% of the threads on your engine.
if that's the case, then i really don't need to purchase a big assed tap and die set then? i can just go buy the tap and dies of those 3 sizes and save me some money, eh? with the exception of the intake/ex bolts being 8/1.25

what are the sizes of the reamining 10%? i'm looking to clean up some bolts and holes in the block before assembly.

my personal preference is PT #272. high strength, high temp (up to 450 deg f )
I have used it on spark plug helicoils with good success.
A NOTE OF CAUTION......
I learned the hard way, dont remove any fastners on warm engines, you are rolling the dice on spining the coil out with the fastner....yeah its a long story
no I wont bore you with it...LOL

Off the top of my head, the only other size I can think of on the engine itself would be the 11mm x 1.5 for the headbolt holes. Everything else I think is covered by those other three, except maybe the main caps in the bottom end. You can buy a basic Metric tap and die set at Sears for around $45, and that should have everything you need.

Except the rod bolts, which should always be replaced instead of repaired.

and some of the body parts... as most of our cars has seen the inside of one shop or another and fasteners were swapped out for what was 'on hand'... lol. [OT] Pisses me off when I gotta go from my 10mm wrench to a 3/8 in the SAME LINE OF BOLTS to get the air dam off... oh well, fixed that already. [/OT]

what about a general grouping of standard/NPT sizes for whatever's left? like the charge temp sensor, etc...?
