As Scott says above, The L-Body stock exhaust actually pinches down to 1 7/8" over the rear axle. Anything is a huge improvement over that. Less back pressure is always better for a T car.

on a N/A car you do, on a turbo engine it might still somewhat apply, but the boost will build up so much faster that you make more power on the low end since you have more boost than you did before

Back in '87 I sawed my stock exhaust off right where it turns towards the cat, and put in a flange so I could uncork at the drag strip. My GLH-T gained 4 tenths in the quarter mile, and dropped from 15.20's to 14.80's with no other changes. Back then we weren't as astute about these cars as you guys are now(except for Todd Nelson ,who was running real low 13's at 106+mph even then). My car was all stock except for a Direct Connection computer, and with the exhaust open, turbo lag was non-existent, and would blow the 205-50 gatorbacks away, resulting in 2.30 and 2.40 60 foot times leaving at 2800 rpms.I guess my point is ,OPEN THE EXHAUST. Even on a stock car, the improvement is amazing, and too much fun!

Just out of curiosity how big of a difference will you have if you open the exhaust and get an ecu calibration taking advantage of the extra flow/boost compared to just opening the exhaust?

Ran my SRT-4 at the track last Friday.
First pass with open cutout, 13.55@103

Unhooked the battery for a half hour, next pass 13.35@104.

my car acts like it has some power to begin with but when i opened up my exhaust boy did i feel a different at 1st i had a 2 1/1"exhaust with a 2 1/4" magnaflow it was a lil noticable but once i took the muffler off i noticed a reasonable amount more hp and the boost going up not really i started getting MAYBE 2-3psi more but was barely there sometimes

i just upgraded from a 2.5 in with a dynomax turbo muffler and no cat to a 3'' system with high flow cat and straight through dynomax muffler. great sound, great power

you might ask why i put a cat back on... cause frankly when i had my high flow cat on my 2.5 then took it off. i didnt notice ANY power gains, and at least now i can pass saftey and emmisions.

oh yeah, I also cant wait to put on my ported and coated TBI header with my CUSTOM 3.5'' swingvalve (thats not a typo)

ill take pics when i get to it
