I am going to use a standard Garrett T03 turbo on my 2.5l build. The studs that mount the chrysler specific turbine flange are blind tapped....they don't enter the exhaust stream. If I drill and tap for the T03 flange they will protrude into the exhaust runners. Has anyone done this? Did you encounter any problems with this? It looks like there is pleny of material to drill and tap. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I tried searching and didn't come up with anything. TIA.

I had an exhaust manifold that had this done to it. I didn't use it and sold it before I had the chance. If the holes go into the exhaust stream, I'd use a good sealant and use a stud at those locations.

i just did this myself as well as drilled a hole for an external wastegate. i don't see why it shouldn't work. just make sure you drill it out for the correct size tap so the threads are nice and thick and seals good.

If you run the tap ALMOST the whole way through your drilled hole, the stud will stop about flush. This way you can tighten the stud so it doesn't work its way loose, and you won't protrude the stud into the flow path inside. Furthermore, you should have a pretty tight leak-proof seal when you're done.
