I myself am a big fan of spintech mufflers. Checkem out here:
http://www.spintechmufflers.com/spin...ntechindex.asp
They look pretty sweet. I have seen some videos of them in action and they sound nice. The car is pretty quite at idle and cruise speed but when you floor it, it sounds like a freaking lion. Atleast thats what the video sounded like.

mufflers with baffles = bad for turbo. look at the design of that thing, its designed to create turbulence!
again, if you cant see through it, it doesnt belong on a turbo car

lol, while I couldn't agree mroe with xrattiracer, I think this one might be ok on most TD cars running around on the road

5"!!! Might as well bolt a sewer pipe under the car.

yeah, but probably wont do as much for sound control as a straight through glass back style, and still be more restrictive
and look at the price!

but for a N/A V8 I know they are freaking awesome.... for a TD a full exhaust with a HiFlo cat is pretty good at sound reduction

I tried stuffing steel wool behind the silencer and that worked for a little while, but then it clogged up because the car was running rich at the time.
All engines are different. The Subie has a larger engine and some decent exhaust flow vs the 1.5L Honda. Just change to a different muffler, IE Flowmaster, Edelbrock, Ultraflow etc.

Here is one I found it is only 2.5" in and out he also has a 3", but it is kind of long 18", 24"overall. I bought my 4" Flowtech for my cummins from this guy with free shipping. Great deal, and great to deal with. I would like to try one of these on my Shadow. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Polis... Z290038781482

Personally I would stay away from a no name e-bay special and purchase one from a proven manufacturer(magnaflow, dynomax, borla etc..).

I have a spintech muffler on my Shadow and it sounds great! I have the 3" pro street series, mounted at the very back ending in a welded-on chrome tip. Spintech claims this series of mufflers is used on some class of racing porsches... most likely turbocharged.

here's a short clip I made a while back and just finally uplaoded.

the reason older TDs don't sound like BEE's is the 2 valve head. My brother has a $800 3" system on his SRT 4 and you can hear the buzz. A straight through muffler with a 3" system on a 8v head never sounds bad.

The pipe size leading back to the muffler can also make a large difference in the sound. N/A Honduh's with full large piping front to rear sound a bit less raspy than when the cheap a$$es just throw a fart can on the stock car.

My cousin's Civic has a straight 3" pipe and some kind of glass pack muffler. It's loud and throaty, the only Civic I've ever heard that I can say that about. There's a little bit of a buzz in the mid range that's low and a different buzz at the really high RPM, but it's barely detectable over the rumble. I don't know much about the engine he has, either the 1.5 or 1.6 16v. I was shocked the first time I heard it. So yeah, piping to the muffler makes a huge difference.
