i bought a 3 inch exhuast for my 91 spirit and put 2/3 of it in, but the piece that goes over the axle is hitting the spring, and is 1/8 inch away from my gas tank. should i go to a smaller exhaust or try to bend the one i already have? please help.

loosen the straps on the gas tank and slide it over a bit. Don't go smaller.

Also,
try manipulating both sections of pipe at the same time. I just installed a 3" setup in my Lancer, and initially had the same issue as you do...by rotating both pieces slightly, I now have 1/2" on both sides!

I had similar probs but I have a custom rear suspension so I thought it was mostly that. I moved the tank over, and bent the lip of the tank w/ a hammer also
