Hello all. I have an 86 glhs with the turbo removed and I just installed the turbos unleashed 3" swingvalve. The wastegate can itself is working fine, however, the (not sure what its technical name is) round cover that is actuated by the wastegate and covers the turbine bypass is sticking. I have a picture that shows what im trying to say.

My question is this. Will the wastegate actually open enough for this to happen? The wastegate at the sticking point is almost fully extended. Has anyone ever had this type of problem before?

Maybe I'm worrying too much, but I dont want to get this put back on to find out that it is sticking and I have no boost!

Thanks everyone for the help.

Spy,

I'd probably post this in the vendor section, or shoot TU.com an email and ask them what's up.

It sure looks funny in the picture.

Well, I wanted to see if anyone else had this problem or if the wastegate will even open to this extreme during normal operation. Also, I was thinking that under pressure the valve might not sag in order to get stuck. I will ask them if people think it might be a defect.

Yes, I had the problem. There is plenty of wall thickness, so I took out my die grinder and ground out metal until it swung open and closed without sticking.
I didn't know mine was sticking until it was installed . But now all is well.

looks to me like the hole for the puck arm was drilled in the wrong spot, off by maybe .200"-.250"?.

the round thing is called the puck or the flapper, also it's called the wastegate, as that is literally the wastegate itself. Since it's on a little wiggle thing the angle can get messed up. Do talk to Chris, it's not your fault if it is sticking, and you should not have to fix it IMO. If you do want to fix it, break ot the die grinder like guyd said.

Chris, does it have to be SS wire?

I noticed this same issue with my early TU SV and a new .63 exhaust housing.

Chris, thank you for the reply. I wrapped some SS line and also did a bit of grinding on the wastegate hole and It looks like it will work just fine now.
