Low restriction cat choices?

I am going to build an exhaust system on a 3.0 V-6 car.

What is a good choice for a low restriction cat, as the engine will be built up somewhat. And horsepower is needed! Stock cats are supposed to be fairly restrictive, and this one has a lot of miles on it besides that.

Catco? Walker? Dynomax? Something else?

Also, the lower the price, the better.

Even though PA has emissions in some counties (not mine), the cat still has to be there even in non-emissions counties.

And normally I would NEVER run a cat regardless of the law in PA , but I have 2 things to consider in this particular case:

1. Reinstalling the stock cat made the car SO much quieter, as with no cat, the Dynomax Super Turbo muffler has this BLAAAAAAAAAA drone / resonance to it that I found very annoying.

2. If all goes to plan, I want to move to California in the spring, and until I learn the laws out there it might be better to have a cat on the car for the emission crybabies in charge out there that I've read so much bad stuff about.

I'd just punch out the stock cat and let it go at that, but I like being able to hear the engine instead of the exhaust.

You could replace the cat with a glasspack or resonator. This is what I did and it sounds so much better that it did with the cat, without the drone. I'm using a turbo muffler with the stock size pipes.
But since you want a cat just go with the cheapest high-flow cat you can find. Anything is better than the stock cat.

From personal experience. Do NOT get catco if you want to pass california smog.
Get the Walker, it clean exhaust very well.

Got more details about different brands of cats and how well they work? Free flow is most important to me, which is best for that?

I won't need a house out there, a decent apartment will be adequate.

Freeflow is useless if you don't pass california smog.

I ordered mine from JEGS. I looked at the different stainless high flow cats and decided on one that would flow properly for a small block V8 at 4500rpm. I figured that in my case it would flow pleanty good enough for my application. They come in all input/output sizes including 3". I think it was a FlowMaster but don't hold me to that.

3" electronic dump valve just before the cat. Dont get any more free flowing than that! Magnaflow (carsound) makes a very good high flow cat.
