I have a 02 dodge neon sxt 2.0L and i was wanting to put a 3" catback free flow. has anyone done it yet? i was just told that it cant be done for 2 reasons 1) 3" pipe wont fit and 2) i would lose to much back pressure that my check engine light will come on and cant pass inspection. need info on this bad thanks

Too big, 2.5 inch is the biggest you should go. If you run 3 inch, you will lose all your bottom end. You can run a high flow cat, but make sure you put the rear oxygen sensor in or the SES light will come on or use a ox sensor eliminator to trick the computer.

Backpressure you WANT to lose, what you dont want to lose is exhaust velocity. The only thing that you will lose from going to too big of a pipe is exhaust velocity. If you maintain a 2"-2.25" pipe throughout the whole system then i'm pretty sure you will get the sound you're going after as well as the performance you're looking for.

I have a 97 Highline with stock exaust from the header back with a straight through tuner muffler. 3R RACING I believe it is. Its a nice deep tone but not exsesivly loud and a nice difference in speed and acceleration. (Its a 3spd auto)

Just a guess, but maybe look into getting a used srt4 exhaust- not sure of size but might work.

Turbovanman and others are right.. it will be a huge was of money and you will loose all your torque... 2.25" is as big as i would go on a stock to lightly modified 2.0 motor..

I dont see the point in a 3" exaust unless you have a V8 or Turbocharger. Outside of that you usually loose HP or at least torque if you go too big.

Well 3" works great when your stock exhaust manifolding and exhaust ports suck at their job :P
with only 2.0 liters, 2.5 sounds like a good choice :P

^He's right.
I had a 98 R/T, trust me there is no gain to be found in the pipes on a mild setup. If you are doing more with the motor in the future, invest in a quality header with thermal coating, and drop the stock muffler for something else.

Did you do your CAI? Anything is better than the "Betty Crocker" oven stock setup!
