I am wondering if anyone has this setup. I want flow like we all do but I would for that flow to do its thing as quietly as possible. Sure a nice low note with just a bit of rumble would be great but NOTHING inside the car. I don't want the exhaust to interfere with the stereo at all.

That said what about this setup.

2.5" mandrel bend down pipe into a 2.5" high flow cat. From there a short pipe to a 2.5" 'resinator' muffler like a Cherry Bomb or other 'straight through' muffler. Then the mandrel bend 2.5" pipes to the up and over into a good high flow SuperTurbo muffler (brand not decided). Tip it off with a modified to fit 2.5" stock oval tip that came originally on the '86 Turbo Z.

What do you think? I think it would impede flow just abit but I may have to live with that as long as it flows well and is rather quiet.

why not just go with 3" setup and dynamat the car and undercoat it with dynaspray. Ive heard that its really good at snuffing out the exaust inside.

{quote**I just sprayed some undercoating under my cavalier the other day and had some interesting results. I only sprayed it to prevent rust, but when I was done it completely changed the way my exhaust sounds from inside the car. It had such a muffled sound I actually thought the car wasn't running right. I wouldn't have thought a thin layer of undercoating would make any difference, but this would probably make a good combination with dynamat inside your car, and undercoating outside. You would be preventing rust too, that never hurts.{quote**

you should be fine even without that resonator thing you talking about. i have a 2.5 mandrel all the way back into a dynomax ultraflo straight through muffler. i have no cat. just a muffler. its sounds very nice, its kinda loud, but when you have a cat on there along with a super turbo muffler, which isnt straight through, you shouldnt have any sound issues. i have a 89 TII baron.

The standard Daytona (2.5 TBI) I have has a 2.25" mandrel bend through a high flow cat from Jegs.com and it uses a DynoMax catback system. I'm using the muffler that came with it. It is louder than I want though the added power is nice.

For the Turbo Z I will be using some DynoMat and undercoating which it now does not have. I could not believe this car when I crawled under it. It is painted black with no undercoating and no rust. I was amazed. So when it gets this treatment and the noise should be less than my standard. I understand that the turbo 'hides' some sound even before it gets to the exhaust system. Another thing about the Turbo Z is that it has T-tops. Most of the time this car will be driven only on weekends and to local club meetings etc. During these 'events' the tops will be in the cargo area anyway. On long trips like to Carlisle I will want the cabin quieter so I can listen to the stereo etc. I'm thinking that with careful planning now I can get the result I am looking for. Like I said if I use a similar setup as I have on my standard Daytona it will be quieter because of the turbo.

My 2.5T Daytona ES has a 2.5 inch system with high flow cat and some cheap turbo muffler. That's really all it needs. It's quiet enough cruising around that I can hear the radio well. And it roars a bit under WOT. There's a lot of noise at 65-75, but it's not from the exhaust. The engine itself is kinda noisy and there's a lot of wind noise around the sun roof and the windows.
