I'd say you're more than flirting with danger. In general, people don't run more than 12-13 lbs of boost without an intercooler.

I simply stated that your car was unsafe to drive and the posts other people have made contain all the information why. They just didnt advise you to STOP driving the car (at least from going WOT and boosting it up to 18psi). They should have.
Fix the issues then drive

I wouldn't run more than 4-5 psi without an intercooler. Just my $.02.

im not for sure b/c i have never dealt w/ a t1 car but dont they run 6-10psi? i dunno though im sure some of u do. but also t1 cars are infact unintercooled correct?

so if i pull my boost back down to the 10ish range i sould be fine correct?

yes they do run 10psi on a regular basis, but on a tiny mitsu man
you're running a way bigger turbo

i also 50th the need for an intercooler but do believe that excessively retarded timing can result in seeing high EGTs that aren't completely comparable to the EGT of a well tuned motor --- if the timing is retarded a lot to save the motor the mixture can still be burning when the exhaust valve opens and thus blows the flame right out onto the exhaust probe rather than something with more timing advance that would have more of the combustion cycle used within the motor to propel the piston and less of it blown out the exhaust.

on my mostly stock 2.5l with a small npr intercooler and 52pph injectors running at a significantly lowered fuel pressure on a stock 2.2 calibration with retarded ignition (distributor) timing (6-8 deg) i was getting acceptable A/F ratio readings, decent performance and no detonation but was finding EGTs on the road course would go over 1600 regularly and quickly, yet I wasn't melting the stock cast mahle pistons. the EGT probe was placed in the side of the #4 runner about 3" back from the head.

seth is absolutely right as well. It's just hard to tell right now if the exhaust temps he's seeing are a result off his aggressive timing retard or the lack of an IC.

He should get the IC connected and then adjust the timing for best power. Then he can fiddle with the A/F ratios while using the EGT's to help dial it in.

Another thing to consider is the placement of the EGT probe. Where is it anyway?
