When it rains, it pours....

I took my mini to an exhaust shop to try to pinpoint the source of exhaust leaks and the crappy clackity-clack sound, and they pointed out that my manifold was cracked...sooo....I need to get another one, preferrable already ported...My biggest questions is what is needed to replace the manifold???

I want to replace my turbo, sound like a prime time to do so?

Anything else I need to replace or check while its off (such as head gasket)?? I know the engine is drawing alot of heat, causing my water temp to soar, sometimes to 230F...

anything else would be appreciated

The head has to come off so good time for ported manifold and a turbo upgrade!

By the way, does the turbo have a support bracket from the hotside to the engine block? Some say if it's not used your exhaust manifold will crack.

well at minimum a new intake / exhaust gasket (get a fel-Pro) - if you leave the head on ; its not *too* hard in a van to pull intake & exh manis with head on - its a lot harder in an omni DAMHIK

if you do pull the head then a MP head gasket and some new MP bolts ; 25$ each at ChryCo dealer; maybe a valve cover gasket too ; hows your timing belt ?

you may (probably will) have to destroy the oil &/or coolant lines coming from the front of the head to the turbo in order to remove them, so a new OE set or some nice SS lines from one of our vendors

anyhoo - my exh mani had an ugly looking crack in it, but it didnt go all the way through and wasnt leaking, so its still on there! do you have exh gas coming out of the crack ? or does it just look bad ??

The gasket could be blown out though. Does your turbo seem to spool slower than normal?

That would have to be one hell of a crack to make spooling slow with a mitsu on a 2.5L!!!

That support bracket is BS. I've never run one, and my ported exhaust manifold made some of the walls quite thin making it more prone to cracking. Also had an EGT port in the number 4 runner. Nothing ever happened. And a mitsu turbo is a hell of a lot lighter than my super 70 with .63 housing was.
Where is the crack?

You can get ported manifolds and headers from our vendors. A ported manifold is worth the $$ vs. doing it yourself. A header might be worth it depending on your performance goal.

I've never used the turbo bracket, but I like to live dangerously
