Hey Guys, I need some help figuring out the best exhaust for my new car (73*** original miles Shelby Z)... Hate how the system sounds right now.

**Cost is no object.. I'm going all out on whatever I decide is the best fit.

**So far I want:

-the cats out
-3 inch piping, turbo back
-maybe some nice headers?
-it to sound as DEEP as possible

Suggestions?
Thanks!

Well You might as well take the turbo off the back and swap swing valves to a 2.5 or 3" because with the 2.25 and a 3" exhaust you won't see that much of a performance increase. As for headers not much of an increase over the orig manifold if you port it. check out FWD- P. But if you stick with the 2.25 SV then I'd only go 2.5" Mandrel Exhaust. That is what I am going to do with mine.

As for a Turbo 4 banger car you are not going to get a very deep tone not like a V6 or V8. 4 Bangers are fart bombs.

i beg to differ... my dynomax straight through with my catco cat (3" the whole way) actually has a very deep sound for a four banger. i would reccomend a TU exaust, or getting one custom bent. dont get one from fwd performance, because i can guarantee its not going to fit.

If cost is no object - 3" TU swingvalve, 3" stainless downpipe, 3" cat if you like, 3" stainless mandrel bent exhaust. 3" stainless dynomax ultraflow. I have an unltraflow and it's straight through. The car has a deep tone for sure. Gets rather loud when you hammer on it though. You could run an electronic cutout if you want to run the cat and if you want to drag race and uncork the exhaust. That's what I think. Good luck.

Think that's what I'll go with, minust the cat.. just throw a test pipe or something in?

Also with 3" pipe all the way through would I need to upgrade the turbo?
Fuel lines?
Intercooler?
That's one of the first plans of action anyway...

Man, I'm excited. She's already pretty quick and zippy, just can't wait 'till it RUMBLES and surprises the traditional muscle cars around here!

The FWD 3" should have enough pipe to go where the cat was.

You need a 3" SV which, 2.5 will work.

Fuel lines are good for lots more HP than stock and prob more than that block.

Inter cooler get as big of one that fits, ebay has some for $2-300 that work good, you choose if you want same side in/out or opposite.

i wouldnt cancel the cat for a couple reasons. first off a lot of mechanics are going to be real shaky about putting a sticker on an illegal car (10,000 dollar fine) and the one i payed 50 whole dollars for at fwd performance really just has two screens, which is what i was looking for, because i didnt want a real one.. but the straight through mufflers are definably the way to go with the turbo engines see the dodge garage for more details on that.

i was going to put a 3" swingvalve, turbo back custom 3" piping without cat, and a 6" diameter magnaflow straight through muffler from TU. i heard that muffler sounds AMAZING!!!!! not ricey, but a deep rumble. also, if you want, put a different cam in and the car will really rumble. i got one in mine and it rumbles like muscle, although the exhaust is still shity you can still hear the cam doing its thing

the brand was Comp Cams. i had a shop rebuild my engine and i told them to throw a performance cam in since they had the head off. i dont know the exact specs of it, but its in between the F-2 and F-3 cams from FWD Performance. i think the numbers were around:

268/261 duration @0.006 tappett lift on intake
464/464 gross valve lift on intake/exhaust
centerline 114

i dont really know what all that means but thats what they told me. if i were you, call Cindy at FWD and tell her what you want to do, and she'll hook you up

Put on a TU 3" or Turbonetics 2.5" SV. Both will fit a 3" downpipe. 3" from the DP all the way out. No cat and no muffler. A muffler adds needless restiction even if its' "straight through". The turbo is supposed to act as a pretty good muffler anyways. As with a header, you're not going to gain a whole lot of power.

besides being incredibly loud i doubt your going to notice a power increase from going to no muffler from a straight through
