i have a ported and coated tbi header im using with my holset now...
benefits are:
1. I can pull my intake in 20 min
2. I can pull my turbo in 45 min (including time to pull the intake)
3. I can pull my tbi header off in an hour (including tie to pull intake and turbo)
4. awesome power!
5. makes my exhaust sound even cooler
people feel free to chime in!
i love this thing cause its no longer "you have to pull the head to do anything on our cars"
now that i think about, everything is just that much easier to work on

Lynx: Do you pull the exhaust manifold and turbo off by going in from the top of the engine or the bottom of the engine?

Also, does the location of the turbo change much? Do the hoses/pipes/lines need to be modified?

do everything from the top, no jacks or jack stands needed.
cause i run a big holset, and the flange on mine is pretty thick, its close to the fire wall. i put some DEI self sticking heat/noise insulation against my fire wall, cause even with poly bushings it still rocks enough to touch sometimes. with the insulation there, i cant tell anymore though
you also need to run a longer oil line, and i had my buddy weld me up a custom downpipe

Awesome! Quick and easy disassembly is what I want. Just to be clear, Lynx853, you had to modify the oil line. Was that the pressure line or the return oil line? Also, did you have to modify the pressure or return coolant lines at all? I will be using a stock garret turbo, so I don't need custom lines in the first place, but I would like to know how much I would need to customize my setup if I did go with a TBI header. BTW, my downpipe will be customized regardless of what exhaust manifold I use, so that is not an issue.
Any year TBI exhaust manifold from the mid/late 80's will work, right? Or is there a specific model/year I should be looking for?
Thanks.

not sure of what specific years to use...
but to answer your other questions:
you had to modify the oil line. Was that the pressure line or the return oil line? Also, did you have to modify the pressure or return coolant lines at all?
I didn't modify my oil feed line, I have a complete new one and got rid of the old one alltogether.
I did have to cap off where the oil return goes back into the block, and tap my oil pan for the return which was actually pretty easy. the half shaft seems to be right in the way of where the oil return line would run through. I tapped my pan right under the half shaft, and no oil return issues. you may not realize it, but the oil level in the pan is less then half way.
I dropped my pan to tap it, to see where the oil level was, and to do it right, so no metal in the oil and plus i got a fitting that had to be screwed in on the inside.

Sounds pretty simple. Just takes time. I was hoping I didn't have to drop my oil pan again, though. I've done it twice since I owned the car and I have only driven the car about 4 miles. It needs some work. Thanks for the info!

How much power increase was there? And spool time? Big difference?
