I installed a 3" system on my 88 Shelby Z. What muffler would you recommend to tone it down? It's really loud.

Well, if noise is an issue, I'd consider a Walker DynoMax Super Turbo or some other turbo muffler. Make sure it's a true 3" all the way through (be careful; many 3" mufflers have 2½" inner tubes). The largest case you can fit will not only be quieter, but should have less backpressure as well.

What have you got now? Perhaps a 3-chamber Flowmaster or something else would be quieter if you're running a straight-through design now.

I have a 3inch dynomax super turbo, The bigger one. It sounds real nice, quiet with a real deep tone. I am also running a 3 inch cat so I am sure that is helping to quiet it down too.

My '93 Shadow ES is a V6 5 speed, it used to be a V6 automatic car. I have a 2-1/2" exhaust system with the Dynomax Super Turbo muffler.

With just the 2-1/2" pipe and muffler, it wasw rather loud and droned / resonated too much for me. I actually put the cat back on the car to quiet it down! That's how bad it was.

I just recently took out the old stock cat and installed a 3" Magnaflow cat from Summit Racing, still with the older Super Turbo muffler. Now it sounds nice and has a bit of a bark to it, but it isn't loud either.

And with the new free flowing cat, the car picked up 15 horsepower at the dragstrip also, so that was a nice bonus! 3-1/2 tenths and 3 mph in the 1/4 mile. Now it runs 15.60's at 88-89 mph. It was 16.0's at 85 with the old stock cat on just a few weeks ago.

"turbo" mufflers have no place on a turbo car, its a huge marketing farce.
magnaflow, dynomax ultraflow, etc are good choices. if you can see through it, it will work well on a turbo car.
if its still too loud, put a cat or a resonator on it as well.

I have superturbos on my Tbird. Its quiet, not as quiet as stock of course, but I really wish I had ultraflows instead. Theyre still better than chambered mufflers like flowmasters.

Youll really hurt your spool up with anything besides a straight-thru muffler.

You can run an ultraflow or magnaflow and if its still too loud put a bullet muffler or glasspack (a good one) upstream to quiet it a little more.

magnaflow or dynamax. Nothing else belongs on a turbo car

My tbird currently. 3" Downpipe into dual 2.5" superturbo mufflers and out the back.

Here it was before that, all straight piped. You can get an idea how much the turbo mufflers quiet it down.

Dont run a cat if you dont have to, if its too loud try a resonator, glasspack or bullet style muffler instead. That way you arent sacrificing flow.
