before you start bashing, hear me out lol.. i still have the stock little mitsu turbo (88 shadow) but i want some sweet flow without too much noise... here's my plan let me know if it sounds like a good one...

keep the 2 1/2" downpipe thats on it.. go to 3" with 2 resinators where the cat would be, 3" mandrel bent pieces from TU, then back to the 2 1/2" magnaflow thats already on it. basically right now i have a 2 1/2" DP to the stock tiny exhaust then back to 2 1/2 after the axle... basically looking to swap oput the factory middle section to 3" and adding 2 resinators... would that still flow ok with less noise or what?

reason for keeping 2 1/2" DP is because i heard 3" full exhaust might be too much for the litle turbo.. switching to 3" DP when i can afford the t3/t4

it should work fine by all means....the only thing is going t from 3" to 2 1/2 might make it sound kinda weird becuse it'll chamber and give it a differnt tone but other than that should be fine....

how much quiter will the 2 resinators make it though? i wont have to deal with emissions anymore with inspection so im not worried about exhaust, just when you drive it enough, loud exhaust gets annoying and hard to sneak in and out of houses at night............................................. ....

any flow gains on the Mitsu will pretty much result in uncontrollable boost. Stick with stock until you upgrade to a garrett at least. Then put a full 3" on it.

True, but with a lower rated actuator and a bleeder valve it may just be controllable..

I dissagree a full 2.5" system works very well with the mitsu.

a few have had ok luck, the factory system is almost 2.5" the whole way. I now of a 88 CSX-T that put on 2.5" and still has control issues. IT's not worth the time wasted though, get a garrett, put on 3" and have fun.

I put a 3" setup on my mini with the stock mitsubishi. w/ the dynomax super turbo and catco generic cat, its no louder than stock! But it overboosts like crazy. Gonna slap on the diode and see what the boost levels and AFR do (hopefully today or tomorrow, probably tomorrow though)

The only factory part of the exhaust system that is 2.5" is the DP.After the cat it goes smaller then smaller again over the rear axle. There is a full 2.5" system on my shadow with a highflow cat, resonator, and turbo muffler it doesn't over boost at all and it sounds really good.

With the muffler as far back as they are on our cars the stepped down 2 1/2" muffler will have little effect as far as flow is concerned. By the time the exhaust gets back there it has substantially cooled down. However the drop in decibels from a 3" muffler to a 2 1/2" is substantial. I have a pretty stout 340 duster that had full 3" exhaust into 3" 3 chamber flow masters. The car was unbelievably loud even with the full exhaust. It was rather bad on long trips down the interstate. I moved the mufflers farther back and used 2 1/2" step downs into Dynomax super turbo mufflers. The cheapest performance muffler with packing. The car is about half as loud as it used to be and still runs the same time at the drag strip low 7.80's in the 1/8th. Matter of fact the 60 foot times picked up ever so slightly.

With the stock turbo I am not sure about, but I would not use the resonators where the cat used to be. Just use a 2 1/2" muffler that has packing out back. The car will be not much louder then stock at normal speeds.

I have a 2.25" SV and the stock DP transitions to 3" and full 3" from there back. I would have to say its freaking loud. If I could do it over again I would have a 3" DP assuming you have a 2.5" or 3" swingvalve and just use an electric cutout. I don't know how much quieter a 2.5" vs 3" is but I'm sure its better than the exhaust drone I have. My rear interior is also stripped at the moment so that doesn't help but still its just uncomfortably loud for a DD...

Exactly 3" downpipe to electric cutout to a 2.5" system and a nice quiet muffler, I love mine although I dont have the quiet muffler on yet im thinking about the thrush turbo it sounds good and is cheap but still very quiet with a light hint of something under the hood.
In any case I wouldnt mess with the resonators tho
