I think for trucks, its as long as it exits behind the cab(not 100% on that). There are lots of strange exhaust combos on truck around here, that don't even make it back to the rear wheels. lol

Wonder what they do about the Mercedes McLaren SLR. The exhaust exits on both sides right behind the front tire before the doors with 2 big pipes on either side.

I built a side exit for my Ice race car out of 3in exhaust tubing. Instead of buying a mandrel bend I cut 15degree cuts at the end of the pipe and 2 slivers with 15 degree cuts and welded it all up. Should flow just as well as a mandrel bend and didn't cost anything but my time and a little more wire for the welder. I also have a side exit on my 87 daytona. it isn't bad but as others have mentioned it's still a little on the loud side and can get annoying if your daily driving the car. The daytona has a 3in dynomax bullet muffler on it.

My friends and I call those 'awesome bends' lol and we have used them both on my car and on his Grand Am but they are 10-15* at most

for a 90 degree total bend you have 6 15 degree cuts. I just couldn't see spending 30 bucks for a 90 on a car that I'm trying to do on the cheap. It's loud as can be in a gutted out shadow, flows so well that I can barely keep the boost under 15lbs with the mitsu and I ported the WG hole as big as I could. Going to have to add more fuel I guess

I am supprised that no one noticed this was a law in western Austrailia, not the US

WA law says behind a fixxed side window, thats it. Not behind any passengers, just behind the window that opens.

i have nearly a full 3" side exit, ends right infront of the drivers side rear tire. i have about 3" of stock 2.25dp then its all mandrel 3" with a 3" dynomax bullet. instead of a 90 degree bend to send it out the side i used a 45 and i still used stock hanger locations.

I have been eye-****ed by the law a few times, but never pulled over, just keep a low profile when you see the man and you might be fine lol. i didn't know i had an oil consumption problem till i took the cat off, now that the cats gone i dont have anything cleaning up my embarassing blue smoke cloud that occasionally slips out the exhaust.

I don't think the cops around here will pay much attention to my CS... it's not flashy at all... as far as sound... I may end up using a resonator and a muffler just to make sure it dosen't sound ricey.

FEDERAL law mandates that you have a cat... No matter what your STATE says it is illegal to remove a cat from a car that came equipped with one... That being said... I removed the cat, and muffler on my CSX-T installed a resonator, and it passed Emissions with FLYING colors.. HAHAHAHAHA! Owning and SC that had side exit was LOUD! No muffler, and its hellashious! FYI... I ran a complete system that was flanged for track side exit... I have pics if you would like to see them... Exhaust is one of our shops main specialties so if you need "THE RULE" I got 'em... lol... EMISIONS EQUIPMENT M UST BE INSTALLED< AND IN FUNCTIONING ORDER NO MATTER WHAT! EVEN IF YOU HAVE THOSE "STREET ROD" or "HISTORIC" tags... And on that note you are only alowed to drive said vehicle a certain amount of miles a year, and not DAILY... Although I did in my Chevelle... HAHAHAHAHA! You name the law I've broken it, but if you want to get "LEGAL" ANYTHING aftermarket is not LEGAL. If the car didn't come equiped with it from the factory you can't have it... BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT THESE LAWS ARE CRAP, AND SHOULD BE EXECUTED BY HANGINGS! LETZ DRINK!

I lied can't find the pics, but remember how I did it, and it was SWEET! Where it bends towards the sid I flanged it, and was able to remove the back half @ the track, and attatch a small section I made with a flattened angled piece so it wasn't ugly, and round coming out the side, and made for graet clearance cause I lowered my car... Oh, well... Guess It's lost cause I sold it with the car, and have no pics of it..LOL... We can make it @ the shop though ;-) LOL!

still, the morality of it all is passing emissions. Don't drive some POS barfing raw fuel out the tail pipe. No TD should flunk an emissions test, a real test of the exhaust. I flunked because they didn't like my gas cap, F U. The EPA doesn't help with emissions and oil use. My GTS 84 Colt turbo has a EPS rated 48 MPG, the Colt E has a EPA rated 53 MPG. The newer cars chew fuel, even hybrids because they weigh 1,000 lbs more than the same car used to 20 years ago. They add anymore safety crap and a Civic will weight 4,000 lbs.
