Greddy and all of the others kinda scare me...I am afraid of the ricer sound...haha

In certain turbo applications, your statement was correct. In the DSM world some people claim that their car has been slower with a 3" exhaust vs. a 2.5". Also I've seen dyno tests on a turbo VW where there was less power and torque with a 3". I've not been able to figure out why this is quite yet, but it seems to be on small engines with small turbos (I.E. 4g63 with the T25 and the 1.X VW with the itty bitty that comes with it). It might be that huge flowing heads create this situation too. An 8v TD will never have the huge flowing head problem though, thank goodness

That being said, all the TD's I've owned or worked with have loved a big ol' exhuast. My van went faster the more stuff I took off the exhaust, but diminishing returns as it went. I've had all of these configurations on my van and here is how it went... stock<full 2.25"<full 2.5"<full 3"< 3" cut out open pre-cat and muffler< open down pipe. Get as big as you can stand and afford is what I always advise.

I normally gain 3 mph in the quarter by opening my 3.5" electric dump, when its closed its routed through a mandrel bent 2.5" inch system with no muffler.
