So I just couldn't stand how lame the exhaust is on my mini turbo any longer... So I ordered a full 2.5" exhaust kit for the van from FWD Performance along with a Super Turbo muffler... I am daydreaming about cutting the junky exhaust on it now and installing the mandrel bent 2.5" and I am feelin' good about the purchase!

Needed to share that while it is fresh in my mind!
Thanks!

I have a home built 2 1/2 exhoust w/a 3 inch dynomax. It sounds good. Really wakes up the turbo too.

All you really need is the cat, muffler one 90* bend and some straight pipe. Goes right out the side, plenty of ground clearance, even with a 3". One of the best mods you could ever do to a turbo car, right up there with the fuel system and SS oil feed line as far as I'm concerned.

Hey whats about the hp and torque gain you get with the 2 1/2 exhaust? Cause I have it on my 86 laser.

I have the 2 1/2 from the turbo back leading into a flowmaster exhaust. It sounds NICE.

I did a 3" system this way...

It actually has one more piece of 3" pipe angled slightly towards the back after that.

But yeah, you WILL get overboost... I put a zener diode on the stock map setup and just kept my eye on AFRs... never did go much past 15psi and the AFRs stayed below 12:1, but every setup is going to be different.

Yeah the van has a side exit exhaust right now... but it is a hack setup that I did when I bought it just to keep it quiet for a while... I am feeling like I want it to exit rear because the exhaust kills me when I am getting stuff out of the sliding door and the car is running.

Yours looks just like mine, right down to the 3" cut out! I have the stock down pipe 45* elbow though. Nothing is better than hearing the turbine whistle when you take that cut out off. I always wondered how the stock cal handled all the mods. It must be really rich from the factory, or able to adapt better than I've been told SD was capable of.

Rear exit has to go over the rear axle setup, which I found to be a pain. Just put the exit on the other side. No door, no worries?

How much HP? It will feel like 10,000. Probably closer to 10-30 if you can keep the boost where it was, when your turbo creeps up, then things really start getting interesting and 20 year old parts start to break. Also, with the mitsu it spools instantly. Tip in the gas and you're in boost. The garrett turbo will spool like the mitsu used to. Muy bueno.

Finally got the FWD 2.5" exhaust with Dynomax muffler on the mini. I would just like to state that a pre-bent kit and muffler if the way to go... I have the muffler and downpipe welded up - then clamped the last pipe that goes over the axle... No more side exit and I like the stock look of the exhaust much more. The car sounds 100% better and I can tell a huge improvement in how it runs... Considering a muffler shop wanted more for a crimped bent exhaust with a cat than I paid for my setup with shipping... you can't beat it. my .02
