I removed the cat today to free-up the exhaust a little, but the pipe that I bought to weld in place of it was about 2 inches too short....it was too late to run to the parts store and I wont be able to pick up another piece for it until like monday or tuesday. I then had to cut the muffler off of the back section to get the aft section out. I couldnt just leave it hanging...lol.

It is a lot louder than I was expecting. It makes my ears ring when I get on it(I have no a/c, so I have to drive with the windows down).... So I have to get another muffler on there stat....I want to keep my hearing and dont want a ticket. Not to mention, I cant tell what rpm Im at unless I look at the tach...it sounds the same from 4500 all the way to redline. I dont like looking at tach's when I am getting on it either, I drive by "ear and feel"

What is a good, cheap, compact cannon muffler, I dont want to spend a lot of money on this because I will be doing the TII swap in a couple of months and will then upgrade to the full 3" mandrel exhaust.

I should have thought it completely through before I went cutting on it...I drive this thing 110 miles a day back and forth to work, Im an idiot...Ive been doing so much maintenance on it and it has been so slow piecing the TII swap together. I just got impatient and wanted to make some kind of performance mod. Im like a kid...."I want it now"

I had my downpipe disconnected last week too. It really is loud. If you can weld, just hack something together that exits the side or rear of the car. Inside the car won't be too loud with no muffler, just pipe. Since you can weld, just get the muffler you are going to use on the 3" and use an adapter to connect the smaller pipe to the larger muffler. No reason to buy a muffler just to use for a few months. Ear plugs are good for your travels too. My car has an exhaust on it but no interior. I wear ear plugs on most trips cause the road noise is like being in a tin can.
Just my 2 cents. It's great having a welder, opens up alot of options.

I used to work for a CART team, and to me, there is no better sound than an unmuffled turbo engine running at its rpm limit (although 13,000 is a little higher than a 2.2 fully done out)
It sounds so much better than the crappy mufflers I hear every day, kinda like really loud sewing machines. Give me an unmuffled turbo any day!!!!!

No rice...lol, I just want something that is straight through, so there is very little backpressure. I was thinking the magnaflow magnapack, I also need it to be pretty compact because I want to kepp it hidden underneath the car and I dont want to have to worry about it dragging on speed bumps. Trust me, I hate the look of the ricer cans, that is another reason I wen t ahead and cut the muffler off, the previous owner put a cheap muffler with a 4 or 5 inch tip on it....very tacky...lol

My lebaron doesnt even have downpipe and it is sort of quiet at idle and not very loud when accelerating. It's supposed to be quieter because of the turbo, maybe you have an exhaust leak.

No, no exhaust leak...I may just be being baby about it...lol

Ill find out tonight if it is too loud when I go to get on base, if the guards let me trough it may not be too bad. Driving around today though, I was sure to push that clutch in when driving past a cop...lol

Oh, and I couldnt even get an exhaust shop to touch my car because it didnt have a cat on it... I think they just wanted to sell me a 150 dollar hi-flow....lol. I found one place that would make me up a system, but I would have to install it, but he only reduced the price of the system by the price of the cat...400 down to 260, I was mad, I paid 260 for true duals on my truck, twice the pipe and the same cost...the Pensacola area sucks for auto work. Too many kids and retired people are willing to pay insane prices, causing the prices to stay jacked up.

fwdperformance has mandrel 3" cat. back for $160. for a daytona. You can fab up a 3" test pipe to connect to the downpipe. Finish up with a dynomax ultraflow with a 3 inch tip. Probably the last one you ever buy.

As far as sound goes dynomax may also be loud under hard acceleration but wont ring your ear. It is slightly quieter at idle and while cruising. Still exhaust note is deep and rumbly not ricer weenie, oops I meant winy...check it - Dynomax power offer

If I were you I would just get the full system from one of the vendors and take it to the NASP auto hobby center and do it yourself. That way you wouldn't have to worry about some overpriced exhaust shop, you can go with no cat, and they already have the brackets welded on.

screw the muffler! just run straight pipe and get a kickin stereo! open pipe FTW! besides, hitting the clutch when you go past a cop is a good thing, less likely to get speeding tickets that way.....

lol...yea I dont think I am going to be putting a muffler on there anymore. The sound has definately grown on me. It took some getting use to, but I no longer have to watch my tach. It doesnt even sound loud anymore especially at cruise and suprisingly it doesnt drone/resonate at all, I havent found a single cruising speed where it does that annoying wah wah wah wah wah wahwhawahwahwah wah wah wah wah wah wah.....

I think the open down pipe is going to stay

There you go! What im going to do with my 86 daytona is cut the pipe off where it bends torwards the drivers side of the car after the cat while i save up for a full 3" exhaust. I always liked the side exit exhaust.

An open downpipe is too loud for me for everyday driving, maybe if you ran it out to the back of the car it would be quieter.
