hey all, help me organize my ideas here. I want to run a three inch open exhaust (L-Body)for performance. Problem is, I don't want all the noise.

What I'm thinking is running 3 inch up to right about the rear axle and then split it into two 2.25 inch or so to clear the rear axle, and two stock or quieter mufflers. I'm hoping that something like this won't significantly increase the back pressure over a 3 inch exhaust and reasonbly quiet muffler (I want a very quiet ride for cruising and idling).

To regain the performance, I want to run a cutout off the three inch and turn it out the side with a butterfly valve on a wot actuator (I have a couple ideas for controlling this) so that it only opens when I mash the throttle all the way down.

Should this work? Any suggestions? Maybe I could tee it right after the downpipe and run a cutout to both sides? or just tee off two 2.25 open pipe cut outs from the three inch section? Yes, coolness factor counts. I won't be building any more turbododges after this one.

Thanks
Tony

I'm guessing that you shouldn't gain much back pressure from spliting your pipes...and i'd put my cutout as close ta the downpipe as possible. Though i wouldn't have it operated by a WOT switch, i'd have it hand switch operated.

If you do go 2.25in lemme know....i got a 2.25 magnaflow muffler with about 5k on it that i wouldn't mind getn rid of. As well as a 2.25 high flow 0bd2 cat..

why would you take a hand switch over a wot switch? I want to be able to just mash the pedal and go.

what i did back in the day to my van was i made a cut out with a little door on it that was rigged to an old wastegate can and hooked into a vac line with a restrictor in it. that way it would stay closed under any boost below 6psi or so (depending on the restrictor size) but under full throttle, it would open and be awsome loud, then close instantly when you let off the gas. it realy screwed alot of people.... and cops right up looking for a big camaro or mustang that didnt exist as a mini van tore by! ha ha!

sounds pretty sweet, but i'd want it to open sooner to help build boost faster. I like the idea of using vacuum though. I might try something with junk solenoids...
