Yea I like the look of it on your tona. Im going to have a muffler on mine so it shouldn't be so bad. And if I really have to I can always buy the catback. Honestly I don't think it would look that bad on a spirit done properly and the cops shouldn't care when theres riceboys running around with 5" fart cans.

well, when the cop rolled up next to me, he checked out his boot, then my tip, then me, my tip, and his boot again. then his partner looks over and says "is that a turbo omni, i havnt seen one of those in ten years! i have to check this thing out." well he pulls me over, grills me on the exhaust for about twenty seconds, then tells me to pop my hood. he looks around puzzled lookin for the turbo, lol, and writes me up for "modified emissions", because i have an "intake", it was a k/n filter bolted onto the stock turbo inlet hose, "open exhaust" even though he never looked under my vehicle and when he pulled next to me i was at a stoplight, and he scoped out my boost controller on the steering column.

i also live in california, land of the smog natzi's, the california budget is down, and they have to write more smog tickets to keep the ref program going. im just glad he was a no show, or i would have been SCREWED!!!!. i dont think i could have made my car stock again if i wanted to.

I personally think that it doesnt go well with the old TD's...but that is just my opinion. even if it did though, I still wouldnt do it. I believe that for a car you will be driving on the road, you shouldnt do it. It sucks when you have an annoyingly loud car with there muffler pointed directly at your door. We all know how it can be during traffic hours on the highway...you could end up riding next to someone for quite a distance. I know if I had a sleeping child in my car and you rode next to me like that...you can bet I would be asking you to pull over so we could have a little talk...lol. Out of courtesy to others, I wouldnt do it. That is partially why I havent been DDing my daytona lately because I am currently running open DP. I am not willing to spend 400+ on an exhaust that wouldnt be permanent due to being in the middle of a build.

This is how I did mine, 3", no cat to the cap, then 2 1/2" to the muffler. You can have it loud or quiet, what ever you feel like. Just try to keep it tucked up high, this is my daily driver, never hit it on any thing yet.

Turboomniluvr, that sucks that the cop was a dick lol, but you did spray his boots. Here in Manitoba they dont really care much about emissions, you don't need a cat or anything.

Zippita, I know what you meen with the exhaust being to loud if your beside other people, but here your almost never beside someone on the highway, and its no worse than some idiot on a harley that you can hear from the next town over.

Boost geek, thats a good idea, but im just trying to keep it somewhat cheap and simple.

Honestly, I have never heard a TD with just an op DP or straight through muffler. When you get on it is it that loud that everyone is always gonna glare at you?

Curious thought: if both have a straight pipe, no muffler or cat, is an N/A car louder than a turbo car?

No the turbo kinda acts like a muffler in a way. The n/a car will be louder.

Since there may be potential for exhaust to make its way into the vehicle, the law is that it must be dumped out behind the rear wheels. Trucks are exempt from this law. I don't know why cars with side exhaust from factory are exempt, nor do I know how often cops will write you a ticket for having a side exit exhaust. It's one of those laws they probably won't enforce unless you piss them off.

For the longest time i drove around with a straight pipe that didn't reach to the back of the vehicle, and with no front plate. I never got a ticket from WPG police or the RCMP. Either they don't notice or don't care.

Change lanes. If your kid really can't sleep through that then you need a better kid. I can break out the Sawzall and start cutting and my kids don't wake up.

Side exit exhaust is acceptable on a race or drag car, but it is riceboy ghey on a street car.

Especially if the car is more than one color and / or has a lowering kit / body kit / non factory installed wing on the back.

LOL. Anyways I am going to do a side exit on my 86 daytona. I'm keeping everything else stock for now. Right where the exhaust takes a turn torwards the driver side im going to stick a resonator in there and have a tip out the side.
