We better put catalytic converters on all those volcanos and forest fires if we want to breath in a few years.

If you don't burn High-octane all the way, you don't need to run it. Using the proper octane is part of tuning. My 'stang makes a little more HP on the rollers with 90 octane than with 92, and it stank to high heaven on anything higher than that. (No Cats)

I'll run a cat on the daytona. Why? Hopin' to quiet the drone. I'll let the turbo talk here. I'll never put them on the 'stang. I picked up too much power and throttle response removing them. Not to mention having 4 cats was HURTING my gas mileage...

BTW factories and farm equipment make a lot more emissions than cars ever will, it's just easier for the government to push carmakers around...

I personally put a high flow cat on because of emission inspections here in PA. But if it wasn't for that I wouldn't have one.

For all you eco nuts: It is a proven fact the nature itself puts out more deadly gasses each year than cars do. Not to mention all the factories around the world pumping out much more pollution in one year than cars will in 10 years. I have spent 3 years studying all this crap. Cat converters don't do crap besides omit a foul rotten egg odor that makes me want to puke. I should have gutted my cat, I feel bad for making people breath my stink. LOL oh well.

FYI my 87mustang GT passed emissions here just fine with no cats on it.. the numbers looked great..
it is called tunning the car..
a out of tune car with cats will have more crap coming out of it than a good running car with no cats..

We don't have to pass an actual test, everything just has to be there. Cats have to be there, not necessarily functioning. I know it's stupid huh?

How loud is your car? I'm thinking about removing my muffler. I've already removed the cat.

I never thought it was that loud. Until I put the stock exhaust back on it. Then it purred. It wasn't too bad but you could tell it was open exhaust. It WAS however, quieter than any of the (exhaust) modded V8's in town and less annoying than a fart tipped Honda.

I did some more measuring on my exhaust pipe today.

Even though I chopped out the cat and the 1-5/8" muffler-pipe, there's still a restriction. The pipe going over the axle to the muffler, and the short piece coming out of the muffler is only 1-7/8" diameter. And it has those factory wrinkle bends in it.

As soon as I get my tax refund, I'm calling FWD performance for a 3" mandrel bent exhaust.

That little Mitsubishi turbo will SPOOL like crazy then!

But I'll have to leave the 2-1/2" downpipe and my 2-1/2" straight pipe in place, because I've been reading a lot on how the Mitsu turbos will boost creep on a full 3" system.

Since I've got a 2.5 instead of a 2.2, I may even be pushing it like this, but we'll see!

I'm leaning towards a Dynomax Super Turbo 3" muffler, but I worry about the fact that some people say it'll slow me down a bit and that I should only use a straight through muffler. But I don't want the car to be farting down the road everywhere I go like a riced out Honda Civic.

dont bother with a 3" system, especially with a 2.5" down pipe...unless you are going to upgrade the turbo soon...
i have a friend that had a 88 T1 2.2 with a mitsu on it...it hit overboost with a 2.5" full lenght system with a generic turbo muffler on it, even with the wastegate hooked straight to the manifold! i sold him my T2 garret from my 89 a couple of weeks ago. now he can control his boost.....

dont believe all that nonsense about turbo mufflers hurting your performance...just look at my 89`s track numbers in my sig.
