Sounds like it's time to go 3" with a Bullet muffler either out the side or out the back. Dynomax's Race magnum or the Ultraflow or whichever it is on Gus' site with the 4" inner pipe.

I'm running straight pipe-it's not nearly as loud as some of those ricers out there with the fart pipes. The turbo itself is a good muffler.

Yes, 3" all the way back. Go to turbo's unleashed or FWDP and get one of thier downpipes with the 3" donut. Then FWDP has a "catback" system. Put the 2 together. Either a good straight throuh muffler between the 2 systems or in the back and use a piece of test pipe to connect them. Not sure how much of a gap is between the 2 systems because I just bought the downpipe, a section of straight pipe, and a 90 degree mandrel and have 3" straight pipe, side exit exhaust. With my 2.5 (which is amazingly quieter than the 2.2 and they used the same exhaust) it's not loud. Just a nice deep tone. The ricers are much louder. Out the back of the car would make it quieter because it's exit is not as near to you and more bends quiet it down farther. But as far as a muffler, go only a race magnum or the Ultraflow on Gus' site both from Dynomax. Striaght through is the only way to go on a turbo car.

agreed. 3" is best if you have mods, or plan on mods later. otherwise, 2.5" is fine.

^ im with him.

A good made full exhaust can be within a few hp of a straight pipe but no where near as loud.

I ran my car for about an hour on a race pipe i made... basically just a 2.5inch downpipe cut off about 13inchs from the turbo.. way too **** loud.

Nobody ever mentions the huge fines you can get if your caught without a cat.
It doesnt matter if you dont have emissions tests in your state. Modifying the emission system is illegal.

Just had to add that.

Well yeah, the exhaust is letting out right beside you underneath the car.
If you run the exhaust all the way out the back, and if you have a cat, no muffler is no problem. A cat also helps quit it, thats the setup I'm running right now. A HFC, and no muffler. It is NOT loud AT ALL, my truck with dual 2.5'' and mufflers is twice as loud easy.
I was hoping it would be louder than what it is.

Thats why most people here in PA gut the cat. It's looks as if it is there, but is straight through. NICE
I opted for a high flow cat, if I could do it again I would have gutted it too.

The problem with that is the sound waves resonate inside the cat and it echoes int he car.

What you do is weld a straight pipe inside the cat.
Straight through.
No problems.

Oh I thought thats what the definition of gutting the cat is. People actually just run it open like that? I always knew to weld the pipe through, never did it any other way.
