i have side exit exhaust, today when my car got inspected they were giving me a hard time about my cat being after the muffler... but I told them that its on right? and thats all that matters in PA.

just don't take a camera and go beyond the 90 in my setup cause nothin is in the cat...:big grin:

the cat should be before the muffler. its the only way it will heat up enough. Although if its gutted it doesn't really matter as long as they pass it.

I did a very ghetto 3" side exit...

Im gonna have to give myself a negative rating though.. i cut a hole in the ground effects that looked pretty nice when i did it.. however the pipe was about an inch behind it still, and well that was enough to melt the ground effects a bit Waa... then from there a couple chunks cracked off.. lol. Now im going to have to cut a huge hole and tack weld a dummy 3" section to my current 3" section and spray it black to make it look decent and fill the gap in the gfx. lol..

Just talked to my father in law yeasterday abought getting piping to do this on my Z. He's a welder/fabricator who's worked w/ nothing but aluminum and stainless for 34 years. He's going to get all th piping and mandrel bend for me done where he works. We desided to wait untill I get the 3" DP so I can have exact mesurements. We also dicussed having another side exit pipe made for the track so If I going to say trailer it to the Nats I'll just change it before I go w/ no muffler or cat @ all"thumbs up

Oh and cost....He said just consider it a piping sponsership:big grin:

Nascar boys have some nice side exit pipes. Goes from the center and turns out. Several sizes avail but for our cars would be the 3" that squishes into a 2 1/4 by 3 1/2" oval and is a mandrel bend out to the side of the car. Buys you an extra 1/2" of clearance and looks very professional (probably come with a price to match).
BSR sells them and probably other race shops that deal with the NASCAR cup cars.

I just found a guy that does cheap stainless steel, I am going to get him to make the last 2 ft or so out of stainless in a month or so. My pipe is looking like crap after only 6 months,

I'm thinking of puting header on my car and a Y section to bolt to the headers, and have two seperate pipis on going to each end, in front of the rear tires, and put those tips on them like the older Mopars with side exhaust. Comments?

I don't know if you want to run an exhaust pipe right under all of the fuel lines and fuel filter like that. Just a thought. Some insulation would make it perfectly fine from what I can see.

i honestly believe the exhaust pipe isnt hot enough to cause problems with the fuel..
doesnt anyone remember where the fuel lines come up into the engine bay? yes... perfect radiaton from the turbo 2ft away hitting them. I havent tested myself but im sure those lines are hotter than a free flowing catless exhaust crossing a fuel line 1" away would be.. radiation of 1000 some degree temp 2 ft away, in confined space.. or radiation from 150 degrees 1" away, but in a open space??

poor comparison: is your hand over the stove burner on low hotter than standing at the end of a metal shed where theres a car on fire not too far down?

my 2 cents.

Well if it can melt the polyerthane bumper on my moms PT w/ a flowmaster "duel" exhaust then I'd imagen it could cause fuel problems.

BTW MP now offers stainless exhaust cut outs for the rear bumper for the PT because it was happening w/ the borla exhaust they have in there catalog

Right before it exits in front of the left tire you could join another pipe on the top which will go through the regular route into a muffler in the back. I had this set-up for years on my SC but mine had a flange w/threads so I could block it off and go through the rear of the car when not at the race track.

I have a 3 inch side exit on my 87 Shelby Z TII. Haven't had any problem with it as far as hitting anything when pulling in and out of parking lots. have a dynomax race muffler mounted in the center of the car. also haven't noticed any exhaust fumes even when sitting. overall it can be a little noisy if your trying to sneek in under cover at night, but is not bad even when going down the highway. have some pix on my site.
