Is there any reason to have a muffler on the exhaust if you dont have to worry about emissions testing? I have been thinking about cutting mine to a side exit but wasn't sure about the muffler. I dont have a muffler on it now (3" DP back) and it doesnt seem to be all that loud. Thx for the feedback

mufflers don't do anything related to emissions, all they do is dampen the sound... it's a turbo motor so you dont have to worry about not having any backpressure, so CUT IT OFF i say.

while it is true that a muffler has no real impact on emissions, you can still fail an emissions inspection (if you have them in your area) for not having a muffler, if they choose to do so...

if you have to "get used to" the noise of your exhaust system, then ITS TOO **** LOUD........theres just no legitimate excuse to not have atleast some kind of performance muffler on your car....

Yes, Summit does have cheap mufflers that are similar to the Dynomax Super Turbo, but do they flow good? No point in building a nice 3 inch mandrel exhaust system and then putting a cheap and restrictive muffler on it.

I'm in the same situation. I want to use a 3" Super Turbo, but the bills are adding up and I may have to cheapen it up quite a bit.

But almost anything should be better than a stock muffler.

$15 US convert to Canadian = $20 + Shipping over the border $15 = $35 + tax $8 = $43. Now $43 isn't that much, but when you start from $15-$20, it's ridiculous. I'm not spending up to $50 for a crappy muffler just to make my car purr when it's actually one of the quietest exhaust modded cars on the road.

Yes I can get $30 mufflers here but they're crap and defeat the purpose of modding the exhaust with terrible flow.

I ran no muffler on my Daytona and Laser when they still had cats. Perfect volume level. Now that I have no cat on my Daytona, I have a fart cannon back there. It's probably too loud, but quieter than most fart cannon'd Honduh's.

3" no muffler no cat and no cat-back leaves me with one hell of a sound, i can't wait to fire it up.

how long do you think itl take before I can't hear anymore and put my exhaust cutout on with the 2 mufflers I bought?

Depends what kinda car you drive I'm sure. I dunno what P bodies are like but I know that G and J take open exhaust quite well since they seem to be better insulated than some other TD's. The weights gotta go somewhere, right? :big grin:
I hear L bodies sound like they're gonna rattle to pieces with open exhaust though.

Course my Daytona with the back end gutted rattled around quite a bit. I think just having the seats bolted down stopped some vibration

I have a great stereo system in my Daytona, and when I first set it all up in there, it sounded like the sub was bottomming out, just from the rattling coming from the car. Turned out it was just the panelling on the hatch, once I removed all of it, the car sounds absolutely beautiful now. Some idiot put sheetmetal trim on that hatch at the factory.. If I cared enough, I might have been able to put something behind it to keep it from resonating and rattling, but this was much easier, and really doesn't look that bad.
