Hey guys.. i was just wondering when you install the 3" SV do you have to pull the turbo off, hence the head off.. or can you do this by unbolting the passanger motormount...and jack the motor forward?

I wouldn't want to try it that way... The old SV bolts are usually very brittle...

have your torch ready (to heat the bolts up) but it shan't be that hard, in the near future I should be doing the same thing.

So i guess it would just be a lot easier to pull the head/turbo off and do it that way?

I took mine to a shop to do. They did it from the bottom. I was concerned about breaking the bolts myself, plus I was having the new 3" exhaust put on at the same time.

I would do it from under the car, if the exhaust is not there in the way. Even then I would try it that way because if it works out, then you just saved yourself a bunch of time and additional expense.

How much did they charge for the shop? I have 3" exhaust but will put a 3" sv on there eventually because of the leakage.

just when i was gonna start a thread like this i see some of my questions answered.....

so, if i go up from underneath, with all of exhaust removed, can i remove/replace the swing valve w/o any further dismantling of the engine mounts, turbo, etc? can anyone help with that question?

chris at Tu said to soak the crap outa the bolts several times, many days before you begin, using a good penetrating oil.

looking forward to an "easy" install of the TU 3" S.V.

I did it the really easy way. I had Chris install it on the turbocharger I had rebuilt

I can't imaging trying to swap the SV with then turbocharger still on the car. I'm in the middle of replacing the starter on my GLH Turbo right now. It has the 3" SV and downpipe. I'll look at the SV and see if it looks possible from underneath.

Looks to me like it would be possible to change out the SV on the car. The top two bolts could be accessed if you remove the power steering pump and remove those from above. The lower two bolts don't look that hard to get to from underneath; although it might help if the intermediate and axle shafts were out of the way. There is also one bolt inside the SV. I'm not sure how hard that would be to get to.

The 3" TU swingvalve requires special bolts that have a small head. You'll need a special socket.

Chris, what was the measured increases when you had a 2.5" on a 3" exhaust vs. a 3" on a 3"? thanks!

I've taken mine off with it in the car, but this was with the FM header and the bolts weren't too difficult to get out because I put C-5 anti-sieze on them before installing.

What modifications have to be done to the wastegate in order for the swingvalve to work?
