I posted this in another forum, should have put it here. After some leisurely driving I noticed my cat was red hot. I was told this could be from running to rich or my timing is way out of wack. Anyone else ever experience this?

I didnt think so either, but a member pointed out that the fuel may actually finish burning in the cat. My a/f seems fine anyway though.

Cat could be starting to get plugged up...and you may have fuel residing in it too. An insurance salelady had her Nissan burn to the ground in front of my Dad's house because of this same problem. She parked over some leaves, and the leaves actually caught fire and ignited the entire car.

Actually this car broke flames from the cat on the previous owner. There was oil on the bottom or something. I was told he replaced it. I was burning a lot of oil in the past....

EErrrrrrrr, hell yes if its too rich it will glow red. Your engine is running rich and the cat is burning the extra fuel. If you don't fix it now, it will ruin the cat and could possibly start a fire. You might also have a misfire which will also do the same thing.

Ok this is getting a little frustating. Its running lean, its fine at idle, lean as soon as i give it gas. The cam time just cant get any more on. Maybe my fuel pressure regulator is screwed, just seems unlikely, human error is a more likely cause but Ill be ****ed if i cant figure it out. I guess Ill have to check the fuel pressure.

How do you know its lean? do you have an air/fuel guage.
Misfire, means that one or more cylinders aren't firing and letting raw fuel into the cat causing it to glow? which is bad, meltdown city!!!!
