I'm going with a full 3" system in the new R/T, but I'm not sure which muffler to pick up. I'm using a FWD cat back mandrel bent piping and from the looks of it, the ideal set up would be a round 3" offset/offset muffler (which is the style muffler I have on the ES, but it's a 2.5" system), however, I don't think that exists.

For those of you with Spirits, what 3" mufflers are you using?

Thanks,.
Pat

Any way at all to fit something like this? Its what I use, but mine is in the center tunnel since I was too cheap to run the exhaust all the way out the back. (Mines side exit.)

Finding an offset inlet/out in a 3" round muffler is difficult.

I used that muffler on my GLHS and was planning on using the same one on the R/T but after a quick glance, I'm not sure it will work without adding a bend or two to the piping, which I don't want do. I'll dummy the system up later in the week and see what I can come up with.

Can you have the muffler sit angled in the back? My old R/T had the FWD-P catback on it from the previous owner. It had this same muffler on it and I noticed it was installed at a maybe a 30-45 degree angle. So, the tip ended up pointing out under the plastic fairing in the rear at an angle and it looked pretty good.

That is exactly the way it is on my Spirit R/T. I don't see how anything but a round muffler will fit on a Spirit. I put a Dynomax Ultraflo round 3" on my R/T and it fits perfect; although some plastic on the inner fender has now melted. The Ultraflo oval mufflers will definately not fit.

Pat - Larry's description is how the muffler sits on my Daytona. It is the same style muffler that Larry posted. Granted it is a 2.5 on my and a G-body, but I did just hang it using a universal hanger. I used the bolt hole where the factory hanger was attached and it seems to work pretty well, maybe you could do the same on the AA body.

I have a 2-1/2" turbo muffler from Summitt Racing (a standard shaped rectangular one) that cost me about $20. Not on the car yet.

My Spirit looks like it has enough room, but it's hard to tell with the stock muffler still in place. If nothing else I'll have the new 2-1/2" pipe bent to copy the original system and install the muffler at an angle (the muffler not being totally horizontal). I'd like to have it angled out at the rear some, that looks cool.
