I remember reading about a poor mans setup. It consisted of installing a sparkplug in the tailpipe and powering it. Then they had a kill switch that killed the spark to the engine, allowing the raw fuel to pass out the exhaust. Im sure Im forgetting something, but that was the jist of it.

can't do it on a MPFI vehicle without the fancy relay, on a carbed one it's a simple matter of just putting a relay into the coil wire to cut it off and switch those volts to the coil that powers the spark plug in your exhaust

i have a sortov idea, tell me whut you think.

stuff i need - spark plug w/wire, coil, relay/switch, injector w/pigtail.

my idea is say a foot or so before the tip i weld in the injector and weld the spark plug in after it a little ways, the plug will hook up from the plug to the coil and the coil will be grounded and hooked through a relay to a positive source. then i could somehow put a switch on that and the injector, splice the fuel line somewhere and have it T off to the injector.

whut do you think?

I think putting a fuel line near your exhaust is a dumb idea, not be rude or anything though

How hot does the exhaust get compared to the engine bay?? Metal fuel lines come up the passenger side rail probably about 12" away from the turbocharger.. im quite sure the exhaust pipe is much cooler than that at the tailpipe...

But, it is kinda risky still.. injector leaking, wiring shorting, ect ect..

yyou can do it with a spark plug..ya gotta have it close to the tip with in 6-8 inches...get alil pump like a window washer pump and full the tank with heat..heat=gas line anti freeze,,,,,,a switch to turn the pump on and one fe rthe spark plug......

wouldn't the exhaust have to be hot enouph to melt it? i mean, i'v seen people who use just the spark plug set up and the wires on that don't melt, plus i was planning on using metal tubing for the fuel, posibly from a small separate tank under the hatch.

oh and those fuel line hoses are more durable than they look. i had just that plastic cover stuff around one, set 8 foot flames atop it for a few minutes and didn't do anything to it.

What if you just setup a coil with a relay and a condenser. Hook that up to a momentary switch in your car. Get rid of the cat so you can get some un-burnt fuel in the exhaust. Mount the spark plug in the exhaust and wire it up. Rev the motor up, let off and hit the momentry switch a couple times. Should make a nice fireball

I've heard the same... simplest way is to rip out the cat & just run a plug with a switch... talk about a poor man's setup... LOL.. it IS kinda risky bein that close to the lines/tank.. but if your pipe's far enough back shouldn't be too much of an issue

It's fairly easy (I'm told) Reeves has one on his car, Cuts the spark and raw fuel is ignited by the spark plug in the exhaust.

GREAT for cold days at the track. Instant heat (and curious onlookers)

Yes, ripping out the cat will fail you on emissions most of the time depending on how strict your checks are. My cat is removable and I have a piece of of straight pipe in place of it most of the time. I put a cat in place of it every two years for emissions check time. Only two more checks to go and I'm exempt. yay
