Yes...as far as the EGTs gauges go, it is interchangeable.

Yea, I just saw how much those senders cost too... I may just plug the hole and sell my EGT gauge... Anyone interested? Never been used

Does anyone know what thermocouple type the VDO EGT gauges use? The one they sell is a screw-in type, rather than a compression type. There are only 3 types of thermocouple, but they don't mention what type theirs is.

They use the screw-in type and are a pain. I installed mine by buying a compression fitting to shorten the probe a bit because I drilled my hole into the side of runner #4 and it bottomed out. Only good thing about this is that it's easy to get to if I need to change it again.

So if I were to get a compression fitting, I should be able to use that w/ my probe to keep it from bottoming out, correct? Where can I find a picture so I can see what type of fitting this is and also, where can I get one?

Ooops...when I said type, I meant the thermocouple itself. There are a few different types. For instance, the Autometer gauges use K-type thermocouples. I'd like to just buy the VDO gauge and get a better thermocouple for it.

Just in case anyone cares, I did some research. Information on VDO gauges is always scarce, but after reading a bunch of truck forums, I am fairly certain that VDO uses the defacto-standard K-type thermocouple (VDO likes to be weird, so I wanted to make sure). This means I can go with an autometer compression-type thermocouple and get the plain VDO gauge. Sweet.

So do most folks put the probe on the underside of the #3 runner, or more towards the turbo at the collector?

It seems like people go with the more expensive ATM-5244 kit. This is for the narrower probe, correct?

most people that i've talked to install it in the number 4 runner, several inches down from the head. i talked to gary donovan about this as well and that is what he recommends for a good reading as well. the reason most people don't install it after the turbo is that the exhaust gas will get heated up through the turbo and you will get a fairly inacurate reading of the temps. inside your engine. I would recommend doing what 'the s is silent' did and go up from the bottom of the runner, straight up. that is probably one of the best intstallations i've heard this far.
