1. Small 1 7/8" diameter pipe poking into that 3" muffler makes a rice rasp

2. running lean cause you run a header and intake and big exhaust on a motor with no fuel addition due to the stock speed density system. the short stroke doesnt help either.... listen to a 2.2 vs a 2.5, the 2.5l is smoother.

Ha, I have a customer with a 2001 Civic SIR with the B16A2 engine, Mugen header and stock cat, 2 inch straight back after cat and one of those ricer mufflers. It sounds really good until around 5500 rpm then it gets real raspy, the VTEC hits around 6500 and it sounds like sh*t. I know when he comes by at full throttle, I plug my ears, hahhaaahha

no way! those were observations.

not with the typical ricer junk.... i had an old 400$ beater nissan sentra in high school before rice really reared its ugly head and i had a 2.5" flexpipe ghetto after cat exhaust with a thrush turbo muffler and a classy slash cut chrome tip, 2.5" of course. man it sounded great... deep and bassy for a 1.6 with 0 rasp. it didnt add any hp but i needed a cheap exhaust (30$ total at quality farm and fleet...now TSC) and i might as well have made it sound a little better than the stock teeeny pipe.

now the rasp ride..... hehehehe..... i had a 91 taurus sho and if you ran anything other than the stock mufflers, it would rasp like crazy cause it would start to run lean. i sold it before i got an ecm reprogram with more fuel to stop the rasp.

i hate raspy cars. they sound like crap!

We had a good sounding exhaust on the 2g but the piping fell apart. I bought a new full stainless cat back and know it getts all raspy. My Honda sounds good w/ the muffler it has on it but it's a sohc my brothers sound like garbage w/ a full 3" exhaust and HK$ titainum/ Carbon fiber muffler. It sounds like a weed eater in Vtec.

Alot of the sound is also given by engine design we dont hit 8500rpm like a B16 so it should sound good.
