So I had this big boost leak for a while, I could hear it hissing. I fixed it and now my DSM BOV makes this funky sound. Kinda like a puff, sometimes two puffs then the normal pshh sound it will make. Is this compressor surge? Anyone got a link to what that sounds like? If it is, how do I fix it? I'm only running 14psi, you'd think a DSM could handle it... Thanks in advance

Where do you run the vacuum line for the BOV? Sounds like it has a weak vacuum signal. The 1g DSM BOV should handle 14 psi no problem. Do you have it mounted before or after the intercooler? Also, if you have an open-element filter underhood, that will make it a lot easier to hear compressor surge.

I have the line coming from the throttle body like the stock location. Mounted after IC. I do have the open element air filter. I'll try moving the vacume line. I'm still not sure if what I'm hearing is compressor surge, I've seen videos on the internet with guys talking about how cool thier BOV's sound and it kinda sounds like this, but its just not what I'm used too I suppose.

Compressor surge is when the turbo cant push enough cfm's at the required boost level so it ends up not spinning like it should but shaking back and forth. Also happens when it tries to push against a closed Throttle.

The sound in that video was the guy bouncing off the rev limiter.

Compressor surge sounds like a high pitched helicopter blade (tchh tchh tchhh etc)

It does that but only but more like a puff, and only twice *puff puff sneeze* For lack of better words. Its kinda cool, but if its tearing apart my turbo its not cool at all!

Your bov is hooked to the wrong post on the throttle body.

its not hooked up to the wrong spot on the throttle body. One side of the TB gets 0 vac at idle the other gets ful vac at idle. Its hooked up to the full vac at idle, the other post gives me LOTS of chatter with no *psh* at the end.

figured it out! I put the gasket back in wrong so the "push" portion of the push pull setup was not happening. Thats why it'd chop once or twice then blow off. Now I gotta start modding it to take more boost : D

Compressor surge sounds like a caffeine-ridden monkey getting a prostate exam.
