got the stage 3 computer from cindy running 15 psi. when i would hit full boost, the BOV would crack open and it'd be a huge bost leak. so i threw some quarters in it (couldnt find the washers) i ended up with the 2 washers that were in it before, plus $1.50 in quarters... it holds fine now at WOT but when im driving it regularly around town, im getting insane compressor surge every time i shift cuz the spring is too stiff to release around 5-8psi. im guessing its just because its a piston type BOV? are the others (greddy type S/RS or HKS super sequential) any better in different boost situations? arethose still piston type? if not, how do they work?

get a 1g DSM BOV and call it a day($30). will easily hold up to 30psi and since its factory it opens at low and high boost. Never had a leak problem, try placing the T for the vaccume source before the check valve on the TB. This will allow the boost to hold it closed along with the spring. (this is where mine is located)

I have REAL RFLs on 4 of my cars and everyone works perfectly at any amount of boost. I found out that if you hook the vacuum source to the port on the TB you get the fastest responce without any surge before it opens. I have no washers in in any of them either. Try that and see how it works

mine is real. its a turboXS.

i had it hooked up to the port on the TB, brake booster, and straight form the manifold. same problem at every point.

about the DSM one... i was thinking about trying a VW one off a 01 jetta wolfsburg. my buddy put a hybrid on his car and has the stock one sitting around. same thing right? he ran the APR tuning it was running 20psi spike and holding 18

I used RTV around the lip of the piston on mine, I've had it up to 16psi while boost testing and it doesn't leak, I only had 2 washers in it. Its also hooked into my vacuum manifold
