Both I dont get, the air from the filter is sucking in warm air that is being heated by the engine block and transmission, and then the cool air from the IC getting warmed up from the biggest hot sources in the engine compartment... Someone explain, room isnt a good excuse IMO
I am cheap and run a stock intercooler so no problems there and the CAI is made of lotsa different mismatched hose outa the engine bay =)

I guess some people like to personalize their vehicles even at the expense of performance. I figure if it doesn't help the performance of your car, or make it safer, then it's sole purpose is to give you a sense of accomplishment.

I had a K&N cone on my GLH at one time.At first I thought it would make difference, but it didn't.I found that I didn't get good flow,so I put back the stock air box and dropped in a K&N filter and it ran much better.

here are some pics of the one I made:

LeBaron Intercooler install done!

I used 3inch mild tube and a borrowed mig welder.

A lot of the Cold Air Intakes I see are just totally opposite of what the goal is. They are either under-hood sucking in hot engine air (and boy do these engine bays get HOT) or piped to some crazy place under the car. You even see these kids try and put them low in the wheel well and then hydrolock their cars because of the water pulled in when it rains. All of it nonsense.

The car CAME with a "CAI" from the factory. I'll stick with the engineers and the money invested in their designs although I might try to improve it like they later did (by changing the airbox design). But drawing hot air from the engine bay is senseless.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh Factory Traditionalists or guys w/o a CAI.

How can an intake designed for 7-12 psi be worth a hoot at big boost levels. I got a 3 psi increase over the stock air box to show how much of a choke the 'box" is. Same with the factory T2 IC, its a good sized choke point.

Run a piece of aluminum 2.5/3.0 tube from the turbo out and put on a 90 degree bend down towards the tranny with a cone filter. Plenty of the coolest possible ambient air available!

FYI,

Marion

Sorry to bring up a dead thread

But I want to make a cold air intake for my 93 shadow 2.2 N/A.

Yeah I can route the pipes around and everything and get it to where I want it... but my airbox prevents me to do that. I cant just couple a pipe to the throttle body. Its the TBI style which makes you HAVE to use the box. Now I see that box and it looks to be quite restrictive lol. So i was wondering what you guys have done to get around that without using it?

I do not have a welder to make one either and dont know anyone with one either (shops would charge me a bil to do something like that).

I was thinking of... making a fiberglass one? I have no experience with FG but it would be a good chance to learn. let me know what you guys think and/or your CAI set-ups.

What makes you have to use the stock box?
And you get aluminum pipes and use silicone couplers and t-bolt clamps to do the job w/o welding.

Here's a thought for the TBI people: Cut a hole in the hood and mount a "Shaker" style scoop. I saw such a set-up on a Charger years ago and it looked awesome!

Ummmm... You lost me on the whole "My fire-breathing stock TBI motor is being choked by my airbox" part. This is kinda the same complaint the carb guys have.

Honestly I have no idea what you are talking about. Its a carb stly EFI set-up with the 3 bolts to hold it on. A carb hat wont fit cause its a different shape where the seal should go. I dont want this restrictive black box under the hood when I could get a better flowing intake. Ive seen pictures of some CAI set-ups and you just coupled a tube from the hole on the air box. I saw custom made one on dodge forums of a guy who welded a box up.

That is why you weld a barb fitting to the pipe, and install a catch can. No issue's with the system there are it is basically setup the same way as stock(your just catching your oil now).
