Has anyone ever tried a CAI for Carbureted cars????

I saw this thing on musclecar today while watching my weekend car shows, yes I'm a dork and they had a place that would help you create your own CAI by allowing you to purchase different pipes to form your intake. This made me very happy, until I remembered I have never seen a CAI on a carbed car.

I COULD just have a scoop done on my current hood and forget about the CAI, but the CAI would be cheaper.

So here's the question, anyone know how the hell I can mount a CAI to a carburetor?

Do you believe that your motor is being restricted by the factory setup? The factory setup is a cold air intake as long as you still have the accordian tube between the airbox and the computer? That draws in fresh cold air from behind the headlight.

Keep in mind you need the stovepipe and flapper door gizmo. If you eliminate it, you will have poor atomization on cold starts and put your mileage into the toilet.

I once saw that somebody made a hot air intake for their carb'd 2.2, they took some aluminum pipe w/ a cone filter and attached it where the accordian tube goes on the airbox. I thought it was ridiculously retarded rice. It could only have hurt performance and if the flapper wasn't sealed it would just draw dirty air into the carb and muck it up.

SO the factory setup is better than....allllrighty. What about the idea of using that aircleaner and installing a functional scoop? Would that still goof everything up???

Keep in mind this is my first car like this so I am still learning, have patience everyone, lol (have been into musclecars all my life)

These engines have the same requirements as any 'musclecar'. Hot filtered air on cold start and cool filtered air after warm-up.

I dunno what level of fabrication skills you have. If this is a daily driver or you want to drive it when its cold, you'll want to keep the stovepipe. If you don't care about cold start drivability and have time and gas to warm up the car every time you want to drive it anywhere, you can open air filters to fit the top of that carb. If you get a tall one and cut a hole in the hood, you could probably make it fit under the factory cowl hood thingy to make it functional. I would stay away from anything ricey.

Unless you have done some serious work to that motor, I doubt you'll see any real gains.
I would look to see if a K&N drop-in is available and call it a day.

^I agree

Pick up a K&N Filter.you will be suprised what a difference they make.
