I couldn't find anthing searching but apologize if this has been brought up before.

My question to anyone whom has experience with this is, Are there any cons to running a turbo off of a 80's ford turbo coupe? They are .60/.63 ar's and are a garrett t3 on both sides. This seems like it would be an awsome way to get into a cheap 270-300hp range car. I'm thinking about getting one for my 91 2.5 turbo daytona. I'm also going to run a cummins intercooler. The head is ported and I probably will make my own tubular exhaust manifold.

Any insight is greatly appriciated.

I've got one on my car, I did some research on the turbos and they are very similar to the super 60 turbo, very very similar. I picked one up in good shape from the j-yard on half price day for $20, then rebuilt it, and sent it off to be balanced, grand total $135. Of course it probably didn't absolutely have to be rebuilt but I figured it was good insurance. If you are going to fab up a manifold, then you can just install a standard T3 turbo flange and the turbo will bolt right up. You will either have to adapt the compressor intake flange as I did, or just make your own, and also make an outlet flange. You wont be able to use the swingvalve because it will be upside down when you get the turbo mounted, I pulled a swingvalve unit off of a volvo and fabbed up my own downpipe (3" of course). If you are thinking about going that route, let me know I have a manifold you might be interested in, and I can send you some pics of my setup.

With the ported head, IC and custom exh. manifold, I would think that you could run a larger turbo that would be more efficient that a 60 trim T3 would be for those boost levels.

Although it would be a very cheap setup for your goals. YMMV.

There are definitally better suited aftermarket turbos out there. But as far as a good budget turbo its not too damn shabby. Figure if someone was going to try to run a TII turbo and turn the boost up, like a good chunk of people here do, for pretty much the same price and a little ingenuity you could run this ford turbo with better results.
