i was driving my 2.5 t1 yesterday about halfway through the night it started making noise. it is quiet on spoolup and while its boosting but as soon as the bov goes it sounds like a chopsaw with an automatic brake a very high pitched whine. does this mean my turbo is pooched?

Could be the stock BOV is poached, thats my guess, or the hose from the turbo to t/b is torn and leaking.

What boost were you running? Did it puff any smoke out the tailpipe? I had a turbo that while under boost or in vacuum, it was fine. But when I let off the throttle the sound was the compressor bouncing around in the housing because of the small pressure spike after the TB closed. I do also agree with turbovanman about the BOV though. Take off the hose going into turbo and check for abnormal amounts of play in the shaft, both foward and backward and left and right. Good luck!

the bov works fine it is loud enough you can hear it, it is no longer in the airbox cause i switched to a cone air filter. so there shouldn't be an overboost spike also i have a boost controller set at 14 psi just before overboost cutout.

the stock BOV isn't that great to begin with tho, noise isn't a good indicator of it working RIGHT
