cordes If your PCV is not working, the crank case could become pressureized to the point of forcing oil through the oil seals on the turbo. If that occurs on the turbine side, it would put oil into your hot exh. and burn it. That can make fo a pretty good plume of smoke.
|
  |
This would explain why it smokes at idle. Make note, the smoking occurs very noticeable at idle and/or low rpms

XxhorizonxX if you used a garret with the big swing valve. by any chance did you not plug the egr?
|
  |
My swingvalve is stock. The egr system has been removed from my car. The hole in the swingvalve is not plugged (yet), since the tube came out.

Hope you are right. There was a small amount of oil on the ground when I left home this morning. The reason I am not sure about it being a leak, is it smokes at idle as well. I am going to jack it up shortly and see what is going on. Thanks for the input everyone.

i hope for your sake that i am right as well, the tranny stuff is all a whole lot cheaper and easier to fix than a turbo.
if it smokes at idle and it is tranny related its most likely the input shaft seal.. mine smoked a bit at idle when that went out.. i guess i take back the tranny stuff being easier haha.. id hate to have to pull the 555 right back out to change a 5$ seal
good luck either way

No kidding. The seals are good. I bet that axle is not in all the way. Hope it goes in more. Just taking a lil break from the cold. My brakes light are on again, so I am messing with that sensor at the moment. Would be nice if this all went down in the fall when the weather was nice!

a turbo dodge?
hahahahahahahahhaahahahahha
the first thing i learned about these terds is that they are going to break on either the coldest day, the raniest day, or most important day of work, and they are going to do it a lot
i think they all communicate with each other somehow and do it just to mess with us.. to weed out the people that arent serious

So very true. I find more TD's in the yard duing winter and summer. Cars that are not maintained will fail due to the drastic changes in the weather. Hell, I have to pop my hood to start my car. There are exhaust fumes filling the cabin area, my turn signals and wipers do not work, rod for the high beams is snafu, the is a rust hole in my wheel well, my brake lights will not go out, and my alignment is off. Why am I not parting it out?

i know the seals were good in it when i used it, pulled it and shipped it to you, so maybe its the axel or the speed sensor thats causing it.
hopefully it is something stupid and not your turbo.

The speedo is in there tight, so I am banking on the axles. Jsut got done with the brake light issue, so (when my feet thaw) I'll get under there and see what I can find.

the axle could eplain why your alignment is off a little too. i know your going to hate to hear this, but i would jack the front up, pull the wheels, and get under to look good for leaks then loosen the knuckles to get the halfshafts in all the way and make sure the knuckels get lined up straight so the alignment is back on.

also it might be wise to check the throttle body or the shaft play, at least one just to rule it out

I was just under the car. When I turn one axle, the other doesn't move. I'll have to work that out in a few. Looks like that might be one of my issues. Looked down the tb, and there is some moisture, but not an excessive amount of oil. Hopefully the axles will cure this.

Something to keep in mind.
The boots on my axles are busted. They were zipper boots from an 89 shelby daytona. My car did not like them. I'll get some off a 520 tomorrow at the yard. I'll update afterwards. Goodnight TDland

Just got home. When I was letting the car warm up, it started to smoke again. A lot. It would not stop, and it did not smell like burning oil. It was exhaust smoke coming from under the hood & out of the pipe. Would valve stem seals cause this? I am going to get another line from the yard, and put together another head, in case the turbo is going. Fun never ends. Oh. I shut the car off for about 20 min. Started again with no smoke.

to smoke alot like that at idle, the valve seals would have to be almost completly gone, its possible though, or you could have dropped a valve guide or 2 or 3.
time for a compression check i would say

Crap! That reminds me. Maybe a week or two ago, the car was warming up. There was a sound like something was knocking around in there. lasted a few moments, then went away. Might be the culprit, but still means I have to pull the head.
