okay here is the thing.
i have a 1997 dodge avenger. it is an automatic 2.4soch v6 mitsubishi engine, pushing around 160hp.
now, i found some one that sells an manual transmition 1993 eagle talon that has a TSI Turbo DSM engine in it{4 cylinder engine} 5 speed, and it kicks a power of 210hp. the seller told me that the talon wont starts because it has a bad headgasket.
now the thing that i want to know is this - if i buy the eagle talon, can i take out the engine from the talon and put it in my dodge avenger?

thanks in advances.

You can put a 350 in a CRX if you really want to.
But seriously it would probably be far from a "bolt in", and I would stay away from a non running engine you know nothing about anyways.

well its true that i dont know nothing about that, but i was thinking of selling my avenger and getting a japanese car and modding it, but it will cost me thousands of dollars.
so instead, i came accross this guy that sells this talon for 700 dollars, and after negotiating i know i can get it down at least to 600 dollars.
so i said to myself, why sell the avenger and buy a japanese car, then spend thousands of dollars on modding it when i can spend 600 dollars for a used car that has already a built in engine with the power and speed that i want.
so again, i would like to know, you think its possible with my avenger and this talon? the whole engine swap thing? please be optimistic...

Like I said of course it's possible. But it won't be cheap, especially starting with a non-running engine.

Also your Avenger is a Japanese car, it's entirely Mistubishi....but it's still not fast right? If you trade it in on a Civic and instantly think you'll run 10's, reality will catch up quick.

If the Talon ran then it might be worth considering, but who knows what is really wrong with it. Those engines are as bad or worse than TD's when it comes to breaking, chances are it's a lot worse than a head gasket.

^ its not the engines its the operator...Talon engines can take ALOT right from factory, Just like a T2 can.

I wouldnt think about doing the swap ,its to much work for nothing..On the other hand i would think about buying the DSM and fixing it up ..It might be something stupid ..if its something serious you can always buy a engine from the yard or ebay. As long as the car is solid underneath i say buy the car and get on DSM forums and start learning.....

yes, it isnt that fast, but i dont want to buy a civic.
now about the talon, i just talked ot the guy that sells it, and i think i can get it for 500 dollars. again, its a 1993 4 cylinder talon tsi turbo dsm motor in it. i really dont want to miss up on this car. i know its not running{according to the ownder due to the headgasketp} and i cant really know whats the real reason, but seriously, i feel like if i dont buy it i miss a really good chance of buying a great that that needs some work on it{and who knows, maybe it needs a little work}, im just trying to be optimistic. but again, if i buy this car, im not plannign on fixing it right away, i still have some other things to do first, but i know i will bring this baby back to life and have her running, and with some luck and persistnace, i will swap the TSI DSM engine from the talon to my avenger. just my 25 cents on this.

yes, thats exactly what im planing to do. im going to try and buy this car, and work on her with time.
p.s - you said that you would thing of buying the dsm and fixing it up. you mean just buy the engine, because the guy dont sell just the engine, he sells the whole car for 700, and he already lowered it 600 dollars, im gonna try and buy for 500 from him. wish me luck.
p.s - are the dsm forums are located in this board as a subfourm or its a different website?
Thanks for all the replies.

Yeah for $500 if you can fix it for cheap you could make some money off of it or sell the Avenger. The swap just isn't your greatest option no matter what, especially if the Talon is in decent shape because then you're just going to have a shell sitting there.
