I'm trying to remove the hot side housing on a HX35. I have the 4 bolts out that secure the two retaining rings, is there anything else I need to do to remove it? I've been soaking it with PB Blaster be it just isn't letting go. I haven't beat on it to much but I will need to get it seperated at some point in time.

If you've got all of the bolts out you'll have to beat the housing off of it. It may take alot of pounding to get it off. Good luck.

I've heated it a few times with a map gas torch but that doesn't seem to be budging it either. I wouldn't think you could get it to hot could you? These things glow red hot when you beat on them in the car but they have oil going to them to cool the center section.

Thanks again.

the idea is to heat up the exhaust housing as quickly as possible while trying not to heat up the center section. and yeah, theres no way youll get it "too hot" with a handheld torch at the proper temp, the pb blaster that you sprayed on it will be smoking slightly.

Yeah I had it smoking from the pb and still haven't gotten it to loosen up. I may bring in to work and gently heat it with the oxy/acc torch. That may get the outside to expand fast enough without heating the center to much and get it to slide off easily.

You have to beat if off with the hammer, heat helps but you still have to beat it off. Don't be scared to hit it hard. just work your way around the housing it will come off.
