i have an 85 laser with the t1 turbo....i finally got around to raising the boost using info from gary and dempseys web pages, i decided to try the simple bleed using my stock restrictor, a check valve and cheapo aquarium valve, but heres the deal: i wanted to get as close as possible to the maximum boost at which the computer can handle (for now) which i know to be 14.7 psi BUT i was hitting cutout at somewhere around 12 psi....according to the stock gauge, that is.....dempseys site said something about boost spiking, does this spiking happen too fast to see on my boost gauge????i want 14 psi, dammit!!!!oh and next time i drove it i only saw 7psi so wtf????

I would not trust a stock guage for turning up the boost. I had on in one of my cars at first. It said it was boosting 10 psi on the stock gauge so I turn it up to 12 on the stock guage. Took out the stock guage for brand new one and said I only 7 with the same hose.

As for pushing it to the limits been there done that. My 85 shelby charger was completely stock except for exhaust I had set it at just below 14 on a autometer never hit cut out but 3 months down the road I 2 crack pistons from to much boost. I also used the simple bleed on it. For Log cars I wouldn't go over 12 unless you got spare pistons/motors. There to much restriction in the intake and having no intercooler.

so you had LESS boost than you thought you did???ya well my next step(first step according to dempseys site) will be a reliable boost and a/f gauge, thought i could go to 12 psi, that was my goal to keep it safe but i cut out at that...gary donovans site mentioned water and alcohol injection which sounds simple and cheap but fails to mention what kind of alcohol.....methyl gas line antifreeze???vodka????anyways that might be next as well as a zener diode for the map.....

Zener diodes suck and i wouldn't trust that method if i were you as i already went that route 3~4 years ago and found it very unreliable and sketchy. Could cause serious trouble and couldn't exactly say why.....just that it can. Grainger valve to bleed the map is the next best thing other than getting a custom cal done. Speaking of, getting one and a 3 bar map sensor would be ideal. Then you won't have to worry about that portion of your boost increase.

log cars LOVE alky injection in my experience. Theres a good kit for sale in the ecu section thats very easy to install. Some people spray methynol (its very corrosive), some ethynol, some people just spray water to cool the charge temp. 14 is way too much boost for a log car w/out alky injection, your gonna pop a piston in no time. Boost tends to "stack" in the log manifold, so running more than 11-12 psi isnt giving you anymore power, its just heating up your charge temps. I wouldnt touch your boost control with a 10 ft. pole without ATLEAST a reliable boost gauge and at the very very least a dawes gauge.

right now on my 85 shelby charger that got the T2 setup it got a zenner doide in it. So far so good but I bought a otc scanner off ebay to my knock retard. But I also wouldn't put a zenner on a log car. Like I said before the guages can be off by 5 psi either way. Yours could be saying 12 but could going to 17 in a boost spike.
